Is that the real sound being picked up on the microphones? That sounds like the sounds scientists create from the waves coming from a planet from a distance.

Yeah its most likely a real sound. Remember that Mars's atmosphere is somewhere around 1% the density of Earth, and that changes the speed at which sound waves travel greatly distorting how they sound. Also the composition of the atmosphere is such that it should be absorbing higher pitched sounds due to the large CO percentage than earth.

Kind of a bummer. Was going to show somebody and every search result was about the fake Mars video going viral.

Footage seems to be real and from the Curiosity, but sound was layered on.
