Is a 2.0+ WAR good for an every day starter in baseball (non pitchers)? I dont follow this shit all that closely but my friend told me tonight 2.0 was an average every day starter and that doesnt seem right to me. Is it? I've always been under the impression 2.0+ means good player

I think your friend's position is closer to the truth than your position. Here are some White Sox players over the last handful of years (excluding 2020) that finished the season with a WAR (Baseballreference.com) around 2.0:

2019- Jose Abreu (the defensive metrics hate him)
2018- Yolmer Sanchez
2017- Todd Frazier
2016- Tyler Saladino

There are two different WAR calculations and divisions within those divisions if you are using or excluding defense

Here is a rule of thumb for Fangraphs:

Scrub 0-1 WAR
Role Player 1-2 WAR
Solid Starter 2-3 WAR
Good Player 3-4 WAR
All-Star 4-5 WAR
Superstar 5-6 WAR
MVP 6+ WAR

The idea is that an all replacement level team can still manage about 50 wins. So 9 hitters, 4 starters, and a closer who are all exactly 3 WAR would yield you about 50+3*(9+4+1) = 92 wins and thus probably a playoff team.
