Hall and Oates “You Make My Dreams Come True” is maybe my favorite pop song. Hall and Oates are often overlooked in the discussion as one of the great soul/pop acts of all time, and Daryl Hall is an all-timer vocalist.

Awesome choice there. I went down a Steve Lukather rabbit hole ( he's a fantastic interview , humble , a modern day Glen Campbell) so Im throwing Roseanna in the hopper.

Prince's "When Doves Cry". Had a cassette dialed to play that when I got a new car in college. Right then I knew that I had to upgrade the sound system.

Of course I didn't have the cash for it for months.

Let’s Go Crazy is the far superior song .

You don't get a vote, you can't hear Prince. Not even half.

i think "raspberry beret" and "little red corvette" are my favorite prince songs. but you can't go wrong with him.

this is an impossible question. there's no such thing. but you could make a killer playlist with a lot of these suggestions.

I’d say Faith by George Michael.

Or Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.

I’m partial to Come On, Eileen.

No idea what is or is not a pop song, but:

American Girl still plays
Mood is a modern day classic that’ll cause MANY arguments
Alone
Caress Me Down
Under Pressure
Tiny Dancer
Kiss the Sky - Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra

"When You Were Mine" is my favorite by Prince. "Uptown" is also great, but I'm not sure that's exactly pop. But "Raspberry Beret," "Little Red Corvette," "When Doves Cry," "I Would Die 4U," "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," "Controversy," and "Purple Rain" are all kind of perfect in their own way.

While Question Mark cherishes every component in his oeuvre, "96 Tears" is special to him. "The New Yorker said it was arguably the best rock and roll song ever written," he said, adding that John Lennon shared this same opinion in a conversation he once had with the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson.

96 Tears

It's impossible for me to listen to that song without feeling deep homicidal rage.

That strikes me as a bit odd of a response. But to each, his own.

Yet, odd still.

I've always been a big fan of "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," especially that part in the solo where the guitar and the strings are in unison.

It's impossible for me to hear it without thinking of award winning commercials for the Volkswagen Beetle convertible.

I'm sorry....Let's Go Crazy is a masterpiece and easily his best song. It has everything in it, including and surprisingly one of the most iconic moments of guitar shredding ever. I like "When Doves Cry" but I don't even put it in the Prince Top 5. But hey....different songs speak to us differently for any number reasons.

Prince is in a class by himself in terms of talent and legacy.

We can all argue about which of his songs are the best, but I dont see how anyone could argue against this statement. One of the best of all time.

Yes....and it's something most would have agreed on even before his unexpected death.

my selection is one that that touches a few genres..rockabilly/rock/pop. good pace and good job by the singer who mirrors the exasperation of the lyrics in his singing voice. an oldie but goodie from 1980:
