I am not normally the type to mortgage the future for one player. But the Bears have probably had the worst collection of QB’s in the NFL’s history. Wilson would easily be the best they have ever had by a wide margin. Two firsts, a second, and maybe something else.

Tell Seattle to name their price in terms of picks.

Bears can't draft for shit anyway.

Yup, very few first and second round picks have panned out under Pace. In fact, when you look at how poorly he's drafted in early rounds which then has caused the team to blow through cap room and draft capital in desperate attempts to make up for said misses, you really wonder how he still has a job.

With the salary cap situation being what it is, the amount that would have to be paid for one of these guys, and the draft capital they’d have to surrender in a trade.. these scenarios are bad for most teams.

Again, trading one of these great QB’s to an already bad team that can’t pay anyone else to come play with them and can’t at least use the draft to it’s fullest extent to help build around them isn’t an ideal solution.

It’s even worse when it’s a QB already into his 30’s (Russell is 32 if I’m not mistaken).

I mean, these things sound great because the players are currently great.. but when you consider the situation as a whole the risks really do even up with -and potentially exceed- the rewards.

Right now, keeping your draft assets for years to come and drafting a QB that is on a rookie contract for a few years is the best way to do this.

At this point I’d prefer nothing past this draft be traded as pace should be gone already but at least dont handcuff his successor with no picks and a bad cap for 4 years. Give the new gm a chance to earn my hate with no excuses. I mean... you know whom ever replaces pace is going to suck anyways.

I would normally agree. But if you're trading for Wilson, you would be keeping Pace for at least 2 or 3 more years.

This is all pie in the sky stuff anyway.

No way he's coming here.

Interesting how the Bears are frequently involved in these rumors. Is it because player agents want to get Pace involved because he has been suckered into overpaying in both salary and draft capital so frequently in the past? Pace supposedly didn't even make and offer for Wentz, wonder if that was due to ownership limiting what he could give up in terms of draft capital?

Have to give the NFL credit for putting out these rumors which keep the league in the news.

I'd rather kick the tires on Alex Smith for a low guaranteed contract than have given up anything of value for Carson Wentz.

I'm perfectly fine with Alex Smith and a draft pick. Plus the Bears can dump Foles after this year.

If he ends up on the Bears, Alex Smith could be staking an early claim on 2023 Comeback Player of the Year.

If you mean he will be "coming back" to the hospital, then I agree.

This sounds like a very Bearsy move.

Alex Smith, come on down!

Can't be nearly as bad as drafting Jordan Division 3 Love.

wtf alex smith? nagy would love him though besides the obvious KC ties. if you're 3rd and 10, smith will no questions asked throw the 3 yard pass to the 3 yard route that nagy called

No chance you guys get Trey Lance without trading up, in which case sure let Ryan Pace trade up again in the draft, always works out great!

He looked hobbled at the end of last year. He did a lot of good things before the injury but much of it was predicated on his mobility. Now, I know he was still on the mend, so maybe time and rest have cleared that up. Mentally, he is excellent. He protects the ball. He seemed to gain greater accuracy as his career continued.

All of the choices are bad. I'm not sure there is one where you can even hope for a miracle career year. So let's find the guy who will do the least damage: no turnovers, smart checkdowns, enough of a threat to lean on the run game

Alex Smith's best attribute was his mobility. He's now playing with a reconstructed leg, and he could not stay healthy last year. I don't get the fascination with bringing him in.

But but but I was told that Pete Carroll wanted to trade his star QB to the Bears and spend the rest of his 70's looking for a new MVP QB. It's about time we get back to reality. I'm all for a Foles/Smith QB competition. Better improve the OL though.

Wilson wants out, Carroll don't want him to go.

Pace should take a gander at how Russ has cooked vs the Packers in his career. He is only slightly better than Mitchell vs them. 79 qbr to Russ' 81, 7-6 td-int for mitch and 9-6 for Russ. Please do trade your entire future and roster to get a guy who the Packers have no problem defending.

Yes. Everyone is making moves based on the vaunted Green Bay Packers defense.

Well, at some point you're gonna have to beat us

But I disagree with UMN's take. Russ to the Bears would make this a much closer rivalry than it's been lately
