You guys hit on pretty much all of the bands that came to mind when I saw the thread title : Doors, Hendrix, Boston and The Cars. Since FF allows only 1 choice I’d lean Boston. One that hasn’t been mentioned but deserves consideration is The Clash. They also would be my nomination on pairing 1 & 2 with Give ‘em Enough Rope.

"Born in the Fifties" is the only stinker on the album, in my opinion. I expect a cover to turn up in a pharmaceutical ad soon.

Be My Girl Sally is a little worse IMO, but it it amusing. Born in the 50's from The Police Around the World is a good version.

Be My Girl - Sally's spoken word bullshit is awful.

I didn’t make the rules. I’m just pointing out the thread title is clearly singular.

I posted right before you...between that and Mother plus Stewart on Any Other Day...Sting should have been the only one singing (although Klark Kent is a guilty pleasure).

Similar responses a minute apart to a post from last night is wild.

Also, Wauconda is a bit far. Sorry.

Biased opinion, but Pearl Jam's debut was pretty epic. Think about the impact the Jeremy music video had for MTV. Almost every song on that album was frequently on the radio.

Chicago Transit Authority is a double platinum album that has several songs that are still being played regularly today. It was on the charts (Billboard) forever, and it features the great Terry Kath taking on a lot of the vocals. Pretty ambitious to step out with a double LP.

"Even Flow," "Jeremy," "Black," "Alive," was there a fifth single? "Yellow Ledbetter"? Still pretty impressive.

Jagged Little Pill sent five songs to the radio, I think. Was that technically a debut?

The Cars debut basically doubles as their greatest hits album. Still favor My Aim Is True tho.

The Cars first was great but they certainly had a string of hits on subsequent albums.

Considered by many to be the best album in the genre's history.

I didn't realize that was his debut.

I'm a huge Uncle Tupelo fan and consider No Depression to be a great debut album in its own right, although I understand why many argue that it is more important than it is good.

Ten is a pretty good choice. Hard to argue.

I own a CD called "Her First Two Albums" which was a compilation of her albums released only in Canada and prior to JLP. I would consider JLP her real debut.

Curious wins for the Jagged Little Pill entry...that album was HUGE that year or so. It's sold 30million.

Appetite For Destruction also in the 30 million mark and still going strong. I love TEN and recognize it's greatness and impact, but it's gotta take a back seat to AFD and Jagged Little Pill.

The Cars, Boston all great entires. Outlandos is awesome, but the best was yet to come for the Police.

My personal favorite of all mentioned, though has to be CTA.....I still play the hell out of that record.

Funny thing is, AFD was released and didn't sell squat for over a year. Then all of a sudden it exploded. We also discussed this before, but November Rain had already been written and could have been included, but they felt that Sweet Child O' Mine should be the only ballad.

AFD is the clear winner here. It is amazing.

was At Dawn MMJ's debut? Recall buying that @Stormy Records in Dearborn. The only reason they had My Morning Jacket at the time and pimped it on a end cap display is the record shop owners were/are a married couple in the play-one-chord for 20 minutes ambient noise band Windy & Carl. And they released their stuff on the same label At Dawn released on, Darla Records. (Plus it's a great record). The original double vinyl of At Dawn came with a CD of demos that were just Jim James and a guitar, ended up listening to the demos more than the actual album versions. I think Jim James mentioned going with Darla on account of it was one of the few labels at the time (2001) that put everything out on vinyl and cd.

Not best ever, but perfectly produced with minimal filler:

Hootie and the Blowfish "Cracked Rear View" had a lot of hit songs, got a lot of play and sold a lot of copies. Nothing they ever did after that approached that level of success.
