I'm not so sure about this win or you're gone scenario.

I think George loves both Pace and Nagy. IMO, it's going to take a train wreck for them to be gone.

Top QBs are likely watching the NBA where the top guys are pretty much controlling the league, forcing trades and handpicking the coaches/GM's/players.

With the current rules that make pass defense almost impossible, especially late in games, a team always has a chance to win if they have a top level QB.

This scenario almost makes the handful of true franchise QB's more important than anyone else in the organization, after all, it's much easier/cheaper to replace coaches/GM's than find a true franchise QB.

Oh no!

The Chicago Bears may have used the franchise tag on wide receiver Allen Robinson, but that doesn't mean he'll be wearing a uniform anytime soon.

Robinson has "zero plans" to sign the franchise tag in the "immediate future" and may wind up holding out if negotiations go poorly, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter:

"Allen Robinson, I'm told, has zero plans to sign his franchise tag in the immediate future. So considering their contract negotiations in the fall did not go well, this could drag out a long while where Robinson doesn't show up, doesn't sign that tag. Because when they talked in the past, the Bears made clear they have no plans to give him that top dollar at wide receiver. You know, that $20 million range that the best players now get.

I'm not concerned about this now. He still wants a long-term deal. Both teams should have motivation to make that happen.

Exactly. If the Bears were truly interested in winning, Pace and Nagy both would have been launched on January 4th.

I don't care how this plays out. The damage is done by trying to go cheap with your best player on the offense.

The players know if you become the best at your position, you still need to fight for your money. The front office now has the reputation as dumb and stupid. They spent AROD's money on a washed up DE and TE. SIgning AROD after you pissed him off does not change the players view. It only makes them look even more stupid because they ended up paying him top WR money anyway.

rrh got paid pretty well

Quote:
Jaguars signed DT Roy Robertson-Harris, formerly of the Bears, to a three-year, $24.4 million contract.
He gets $14 million guaranteed. Robertson-Harris will turn 28 in July. He missed half the season last year after requiring shoulder surgery. Prior to going down, he failed to register a sack. Robertson-Harris was one of the rising stars in the middle of the Chicago defense headed into 2020 after tallying 7.5 sacks the previous three seasons. He slides in next to Taven Bryan and 2020 third-rounder Davon Hamilton in the middle of the Jaguars' defensive line.

Good for him to get paid, I always liked him. He'll probably get double-teamed a fair amount in Jacksonville, though.

So much time wasted on rumors when we knew this was likely the outcome. Bears are in football hell. 20th pick and no QB

Fitzpatrick probably should have been the Bears move.

I get the feeling they will pay more for a worse QB.

i guess at this point as long as we dont give up a draft pick for a bad qb it's a win

That's the way I see it as well. Draft to make the OL good and be the running team that was a success in the last third of the season.

No reason to force this QB thing at this point.

Giving up all that is reported for Wilson would be incredibly foolish. It's everything everyone feared about keeping Pace.

Draft someone and if he isn't good enough, draft another one next year.

If you can force a way to Wilson, I’d do it. He’s a top 5 QB. That alone makes you competitive. I’m confident there’s no path for these clowns to recreate that value with whatever assets it’d cost if Seattle is dumb enough to move him.

M&H speculated that signing Wilson or Watson would likely lead to another few years for Nagy and Pace because they would claim that they need time to fill in the pieces they gave up to make the deal.

Football hell indeed.

Alex Smith, while far from a good solution, is probably the only one from that list that wouldn't cause an immediate mutiny.

I agree with this, but I would add that if the Bears sign Dalton to a bare bones deal, with a drafted QB learning on the job so to speak for the 2021 season, I wouldn't have a big issue with that.

I remember being on Dr Ken's podcast a few years back saying that instead of signing Mike Glennon to a truckload of cash, the Bears should have kept Barkley or Hoyer, drafted a QB and had him be the backup for a year.
