No, Beardown, it won't be easy, and White Sox Radio pre & postgame host Chris Rongey is quick to point it out. This isn't 2005, where the Sox had a big lead in the A.L. Central and almost lost it all to a red hot Cleveland Indians team that kept winning & winning until the last week of that season when the Sox won in Detroit & swept Cleveland on the road to regain momentum. The Minnesota Twins are right there with the Sox in the division right now, and will be 1 game out as the Twins' road trip continues tomorrow night in Oakland for the first of 4 at "Mount Davis". Rongey keeps pointing out that the Sox & Twins might continue to trade places atop the division, quite possibly until the last week of the season.

I'm calling the Sox to go 3-2 in thier next 5 games and you jobknobbers are ready to hand the Cubs the World Series trophy- on August 27th mind you. Who's being unreasonable here? Its certainly not the lowly White Sox fan...

Well, I have to give Frank a bit of credit-he got the lowly part right. It's probably out there, to predict a World Championship at this point-for some people. But heck, I predicted it way back in April (See the MJH MySpace page) then bet on it in June and am certainly not backing off, since they aquired Harden last month. Barring injury, this team has all the elements to win it all. Could they get tripped up? Sure, the best team often doesnt win. Another team gets hot at the right time and goes on a run that winds up resulting in a Championship. Like St Louis in 2006.

But if you look at the White Sox record against GOOD pitchers, ON THE ROAD-no less, I don't think its real likely they win the best of 5 against the pitchers named. When you can't beat Liz, how are you supposed to beat those guys? There is little that would make me happier than to see the Sox join the Cubs in the World series, only to have the Cubs give them the beating they so richly deserve. I just doubt they will be able to join the Cubs in the fall classic. God, you think I'm over the top now. If that should happen.....

Hey, they are the favorites. Cubs should win it. I'd just guard myself if I were you. I've guarded myself as a Sox fan my whole life.

I'll say this and you know it to be true: If the Cubs lose in the playoffs it will trump all of the other Cubs disapointments. That's saying something.

You might have to face the Brewers in the NLCS. That could mean Sabathia as much as 3 games and Sheets 2 times. That's no easy feet. You'll get Webb in the first round probably.

A Cubs 100 win season won't mean shit when the Cubs are facing Sabathia and/or Webb. Keep that in mind, Steve. Or be cocky. Doesn't matter. Your feelings won't effect how the Cubs do. You can do what you want. I'm just saying it's not gonna be easy.

BD-Its not in my nature to be low key. I root and celebrate with great spirit. If things were to go wrong, I have surely set myself up for a great fall and don't I know that I would get it here on the message board. But I believe in this team. I was in Milwaukee to see Sabbathia get knocked out of the game by the Cubs. He was not a guy that looked unbeatable. Plus, we have Dempster, Harden and Zambrano. If the Cubs clinch early and can give them all a few extra days rest, I look for Z to pitch like he did after they put him on the 15 day D.L. and dominate as he did then. He always slumps in August for some reason, but does better in September. I just hope he is particularly good in OCTOBER. Gotta have fun with this thing. Get a little crazy and really enjoy the ride...

Okay, in the same post on their MySpace web-page, I predicted that the Sox would win their division too and that Crede would be comeback player of the year. Crede's back has made that part look shaky and the Sox losing to guys like Liz, has that part looking questionable too. So besides the Cubs win it all part, the rest may well be crap.

If you really beieve that, there is no hope for you. If you think that the Cardinals who finished 83-79 in 2006 really were the best team and not just a team that was lucky enough to get in the playoffs in a down year in the N.L. central and then get hot at the right time, which allowed them to have a nice run in the playoffs...well then you can not be helped. The best team does not always win.

Steve you are about as sharp as a beach ball. Were the Cards the best from April 06 to September 06? No. But they were in October 06 when it mattered most. The Patriots were clearly the best team in the NFL regular season last year, but the Giants were best the one game that mattered most. I'd love for a "lesser" team like the Dbacks to get hot at the right time and take it to the Cubs because people like you are what give the Cubs and Chicago in general a bad name.

When they start giving out rings for the best regular season record, as opposed to World Series Champion, then get back to us.

I don't think that the best team always ends up winning the championship.

The best way to determine a league champion IMO would be to have each team play the exact same schedule and have no playoffs, sort of what baseball was pre-1969. You knew the Cardinals were the best team in the NL in 1968 becaused they played the same schedule as the Cubs, Giants, Braves etc. It was a large enough sample size. Of course with expansion, this is not possible so some teams have more difficult schedules than others so determining a champion based on regular season results now may always be accurate.

But I don't think playoff results necessarily determine the best team either. I think we can say that the Cubs are the best team in the NL this year. They have scored the most runs and given up the fewest runs. They have been 1st place most of this year in the toughest division in the league.

But if the Mets beat the Cubs in the NLCS in 7 games does this make the Mets a better team than the Cubs. IMO, no. This doesn't take away from their championship but because they may have gotten hot at the right time doesn't mean they are the better team.

I think in '75 Indiana clobbered Kentucky (college basketball) in the regular season but in the regionals Kentucky beat Indiana in part because Scott May was injured, which hampered his play. That was Indiana's only loss that year and then the next year Indiana went undefeated. I think most people would say Indiana was the better team in '75 but the best team does not always win.

If Tiger Woods loses one event to Mickelson, does that mean Mickelson is a better golfer or that Mickelson was better for that one tournament.

Of course not since over a period of time Tiger has shown to be a better golfer by winning more events.

If the Cubs are the best team thru a 162 game schedule measured by wins, runs scored, runs allowed, tougher competition but they lose in the playoffs 4 games to 3 then they are no longer the best team? even though over a period of 4 months they led in most categories.

In the end winning championships is what its all about. I would rather have the Cubs win 82 games and the WS then 102 games and lose in the playoffs. But I do not think the best team always wins.

It means Mickelson was better for that tourny. Golf has no "championship" like a Super Bowl or World Series, and its not a team sport, so its apples to oranges.
