Reports have said Fitz is retiring. I guess we’ll find out soon.

I’m happy to wager with Mitch vs Winston but I’m especially interested in a Jacoby vs Mitch wager. I’ll even give you 2-1 odds on that since imo it’s a slam dunk for me.

I suppose the question is the terms. We’re arguing merit here. I expect most these guys to be backups so it’s prob a question of if they get to play, who sucks less.

We could throw a Mitch v. Jameis TD/int ratio? Something along those lines? Something similar for Mitch v. Brissett works but we’d prob have to throw some min games played on it.

FarveFan, you said Bill Belichick would go after Mitch. Bill thinks a washed up injury prone Newton is better than Mitch. LOL

In light of recent posts, I’d like to double down on our hypothetical wager, s'il vous plaît.

Any goof can see how you can win with Mitch, run the ball, get him outside the pocket on bootlegs in order to limit his reads, tell him to tuck the ball and run if the guys is not wide open, and most importantly, dramatically limit the offense inside the 20 to prevent red zone turnovers.

You can win with him if you take away situations where he has to drop back, read the defense, and throw guys open. He will always make at least two huge mistakes in every game, but by limiting the offense to what he does well you can win with him at QB.

That will work against bad teams, most things will work against bad teams..thats why they're bad. Mitch will be a backup, he sucks. He can't beat teams .500 or over, cutting the field in half and dumbing down the offense makes it easier on the Defense.

I propose four wagers. $50 or $100 each.

Total games started over the next two seasons:
I got Mitch, you got Jameis

Agreed. It’s also why he works best in clutch 4th quarter situations where he’s playing and not thinking too much. Jameis is kind of the opposite which is why he loses every year even with talented surrounding players.

Mitch is better in garbage time when the D is already celebrating a win.

I think it depends on the team in all honesty. I think if the Pats (for example) really do go after him he could start there for a year or two while they develop someone. The Saints might be interesting for him too.

The thing is, I really don’t think Mitch is a bad QB -he just isn’t going to be great. But he’s got decent athleticism, an NFL arm, plenty of experience and he’s careful with the ball. In the right circumstance with the right coach/play caller I think he could be a real asset to a team. But.. you can’t put him on an average/bad team that’s poorly coached and expect him to carry you. He isn’t gifted enough as a QB to be that type of player.

I do think he can be really good/successful tho in the right circumstances.

Don’t love the first two, as I don’t think either will be a starter outside of an injury.

Second two work, though let’s put some min attempts/games played on it? Say, 100 PAs or 3-4 games played?

You don't have to be exceptionally smart to be a top 20 quarterback. But you can't be a dope, either, if you want to run most modern NFL offenses for 16-19 games a year at a high level.

Mitch is a dope.

He has the physical talent to not suck in 2 minute drills or against lousy opposing defensive coordinators. He is an average to very good playground QB. He would be a solid backup in a place like Pittsburgh. On a rookie contract, he was a viable starter, but not on a multi-year deal.

If he's willing to take a one year deal for $8m and a second non guaranteed year, some lousy team should take a flier on him.

I think he will take a lot less than that Chet.

In the right offense, Mitch will do well.

Outside of Chicago, where else is he the Day 1 starter?

NE just resigned Cam, Raiders have kept Carr, Saints seem to be sticking with Winston/Hill.

Denver is a possibility still, Chicago....

Struggling to find another spot where he could sign and be the likely starter on Day 1.

Maybe Houston if they trade Watson?

I figure the team would have to be 6-10 or 5-11, as the lesser teams will draft a QB and the better teams have somebody better in house. Not a huge market for a starting role.

I think he will take something like a base of 6 million with incentives for games started that could make him 10-12

I don't think Mitch will be brought in anywhere to be the starter. Due to injuries or other circumstances, I expect him to start at least a couple of games next season unless he himself gets hurt.

I don't think he's any particular team's answer to their QB problem, but there's a whole lot of teams that have the same QB problem as the Bears where Mitch could possibly end up the starter by default. They'll likely regret it, but it's not like they'd be giving up a first round draft pick or blow their cap position to acquire Mitch.

Hire Mike Leach as offensive coordinator for Mitch. No playbook, handful of plays run over and over from different formations

Rivera? Hell no. He has 2 guys better than Mitch now.

To any if you Mitch apologists, which team will he start for?
There is maybe 2 twams now that don't have a starter locked in already.

It makes more sense to see where he ends up and then we can predict how many starts he makes for that team.

Patriots, at least 12.

Ends up with the 49ers as a backup, Garoppolo get a season ending injury and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky ends up taking over and winning the Super Bowl.

Mitch needs to find a team that runs the 2 minute offense the whole game.

In all seriousness, 49ers or Saints seem to make the most sense. If anyone can get through to him, its going to be those two coaches. He could be a very good backup to spell starter occasionally or take over in case of injury.

He could go to the CFL but the 12th player would probably confuse him too much. But up there be could just run around and make throws.
