Can't say for sure but my guess would be cheese sometimes acts as a barrier between the bread and wetter ingredients like lettuce/tomato/sauce to keep the bread from getting soggy. I don't think it works well here.

That was primarily what it was. The concept behind the McDLT was to keep the hot side hot, and the cold side cold. The lettuce and tomato they felt tasted better or maybe a better word crisper "texture" when cold. Using the piece of cheese, in a non-melted format helped keep that barrier when you mashed them together upon opening that ozone depleting, environmentally killing, styrofoam container.

Truthfully, we didn't make many McDLT's, so... Out of a run of 10 - 12 Quarter pound patties, maybe 2 would be denoted for a McDLT. And shortly thereafter they got phased out.

taht doesn't make sense because the cheese was between the tomato and the lettuce and sauce. The only ingredient the cheese kept separated from the bun was the tomato.

Well a hamburger and QP are pretty different burger patties. The only part of the QP she got was the onions. so your example sucks.

But yes, my grandma who grew up in the depression was very cheap. She used to get a salad bar, eat it and then go back up and fill the plate again and ask for a to go box. She also used to take the sugar packets off the table and put them in her purse.

I've been arguing the same thing for years. Once they got rid of those stryofoam containers it went to shit fast. The food at MCD just didnt taste the same, especially the one item i enjoyed the most there, your simple classic mcdonalds hamburger.
