What are the early reviews on the new Sox booth? Is Len doing all nine innings of play-by-play or do they still have to let Deej be the lead for a while?

Len is doing all 9 innings and has also been a breath of fresh air after Farmer and Masur. He gives so much more content (particularly about pitches) than those two gave.

I caught a little of the game after I posted. I think Len had the right idea; he sounds more at ease calling on the radio than when he was secondary to the actual picture. Still, after 15 years, it's jarring to hear "the Cubs guy" getting hyped for the Sox. It's a reminder that most of these guys are just as much hired guns as the guys on the field. After all, he came to the Cubs from the then-hated Marlins. Say what you will about Ed Farmer's gross incompetence, but he was a South Sider at heart.

Over on the Cubs side, I'm unenthused. Marquee's ex-YES executives realized their goal of "a national-quality broadcast," in that it sounds like a mid-week ESPN game between two teams that aren't the Cubs. They really should have just moved to a simulcast and made Pat the single voice of the Cubs from here till his retirement.

I caught a radio broadcast for the first time today as I was in the car for part of the game. It was a great breath of fresh air after the what we had once Rooney jumped ship for St Louis. No disrespect to Farmer, but he was never meant for a pbp role.

I enjoyed Ed and DJ not because of their skills. They clicked and made a car ride enjoyable.

It's interesting that we each hear the same thing but arrive at different opinions.

I never thought they clicked. I felt their broadcast sounded like an older guy feeling threatened by a younger guy and overtly being an asshole to him. Jackson sounded like he tolerated Ed because he was a good guy trying to keep the peace. DJ always sounded better on broadcasts not involving Farmer

And Boog is a bit Jon Miller-ish but eventually he'll sound like a Cubs voice. It's just because he's new. His voice is prefereable to Len's. No offense, Len.

I viewed it as friendly ball busting. I felt this way because they also could be self deprecating about their own careers. Only friends joke about their own weaknesses. What else that never got old to me was that a pitcher, doing PBP, would ask his positional playing color guy, after a pitch, "what was that?" Also, DJ calling a splitter a forkball was enjoyable as it got under Ed's skin for a short time.

I probably listen to at least a portion of about 130 White Sox games on the radio in any normal year, and I never got the impression that there was tension between DJ and Farmer. They would constantly riff off one another, and Farmer played along with DJ's silly sense of humor rather than getting annoyed by it, like Hawk did. Also, DJ went out of his way to reference Farmer last season and has been doing it again this season.

If you're looking for tension, I always thought there was tension between Hawk and DJ and Farmer and Singleton.

I think DJ just liked playing the younger brother smartass to Ed. Stuff like bringing up that Ed only had four major league hits.

The world really needed an Ed and Santo crossover broadcast during a Cubs-Sox series, just twice, one game on one station, a game the next series on the other station.

He is filling in for Kasper tonight. Running a few errands so getting a chance to listen to the radio. His voice just isn’t a smooth calming baseball voice that I prefer when listening to the radio. Not sure what’s worse right now, the tv feed or McDoink. He just wouldn’t be anything I would want to tune in to for 162 games.

I was in the car earlier in the game. Connor said "Line drive shot to center and Jose Abreau drives in the run." I paused. The Indians were up. I think it was Rodriguiez that got the hit.

I know people make mistakes. But how do you make that one? It actually cracked me up. Because he had his excited voice for the other team scoring. How do you not know the team that's batting. It's not like he's a 75 year old announcer.

The SCORE would replay this all day if one of their Pat Hughes did this. Mocking him. ESPN 1000 probably won't.

He can't be worse than Zach Zaidman.

I imagine McDoink has very little experience. PBP can be very tough. To describe instantly whatever crazy shit your eyes are seeing probably takes a lot more experience than what poor Connor has. That particular play had him in deep waters.

Im sure they had to train him or have some kind of rehearsal. Anyone have the link to the call? Or maybe I can find it on mlb.tv.

From where I was sitting, I didn't even know it was a batted ball. Maybe I missed that part. If I did, I apologize.
