Don't the White Sox have a penchant for struggling against unknown starting pitchers?

To be fair, thats true for a lot of teams. The second time around, its often a very different story. Just look at Jeff Karstens of the Pirates. He pitched Aug 1st against the Cubs in his major league debut. He went 5 shutout innings and got his first win. Then in his second start against the Cubs he got shelled and couldnt get past the third inning and gave up 5 runs.

Look, that fact won't cut it today. Sometimes they face a rookie and have a tough time. But that rookie might have been pitching all year. It's just the first game vs the Sox.

This guy is making his MLB debut. Red Sox are in a Division/Wild Card race. Packed house at Fenway park. Pressure is on the kid. He's gonna be nervous. He should be wild and walk guys. He should make some mistakes over the zone. If the Sox don't get to him and knock him out, at least by the 5th, it's a major disapointment.

Pretty sure they will. It's up to Buehrle not to get rocked as well.

I guess I just noticed it more with the White Sox. Even with that being said, they need to hammer this guy today.

By the way, we had a similar situation in Oakland. Facing Gio Gonzalez for the first time. He was making his 3rd or 4th start and we killed him.

Now, recently in Baltimore we face Liz for the first time. We hit him OK just couldn't get any many runs across.

Last time I cried was when the sox won it all. Nothing, not even my dads death, my sisters marriage or the painful memories of my first anal fisting has gotten my eyes a little damp. But I'm crying now, watching the DVD recap of the magical season when we won it all. God I love this team, hey if any of you post on WSI let me know. K?

Even Frank is too intelligent for White Sox Interactive.

Red Sox rookie Michael Bowden had what appeared to be an unusually short wind-up, and according to "The SCORE's" Chris Rongey, he's actually from this area. Like so many other pitchers the White Sox have never seen before, they got very little to show for it. As for Mark Buehrle, when he gave up 3 runs on two doubles in the bottom 1st, it wasn't a good sign. Better hope the A's do the Sox a favor tonight and beat the Twins at "Mount Davis".

I just started looking at Carlos Q.'s stats as he has been absent in these Bosto games. His hitting against the top teams has been terrible. Ran some basic numbers against TB, Boston, NY, Angels and it is not good.

The MVP talk seems to be dying down these days. He, like many of the Sox hitters, have just not hit against the better pitchers. If they do make the playoffs, that does not bode well for them to advance at all. Lets face it, Boston is just the better team. Thats not a shot-its a fact. They have better hitters, better pitchers, a better bullpen. No shame in losing to a superior opponent. But you would think they would compete a bit better. Maybe they can avoid the sweep and beat Wakefield tomorrow. I really like Gavin Floyd and believe he can get the job done vs Wakefield. But this Boston offense is just stacked top to bottom. Hopefully Floyd can come out sharp tomorrow. With Liriano going tonight in Oakland, Minnesota looks like a good bet to take over the top spot in the division tonight.

Bad News: Fuck the Sox offense. Had the kid on the ropes. Had some pitches to hit. Failed. More importantly: Buehrele sucked. He has to be better than that down in this playoff run.

Good News: Nathan just gave up 2 in the 9th. Twins lose 3-2!!!! Nathan has been bad recently.

I'm as big a Sox fan as there is, but this team will not make the playoffs. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.

i think they'll make the playoffs, but if this series is any indication, they may not make it very far...they are a hot and cold team...if they're hot in october, who knows? but i still think they'll take this division just because the twins have it too rough...too many road games.

Not to go all 'elmhurst steve' on youse, but I strongly believe that this team is going to win the World Series. The starting pitching is gonna get white heat red hot and shut down everybody. People forget how "bad" the Sox were for August and the better part of September in 2005. They turned it on when it mattered most in '05, and they're gonna do the same thing again this year.

I had a dream a couple nites ago that the Sox beat the Cubs in 6 games, I think thats whats gonna happen. John Danks will be the MVP with 2 WS victories.

What are you talking about? Danks has been good in like 5 out of his last 8 starts or something like that.

Before yesterday, Vasquez had a nice run of good starts. Yesterday, he held them down for 5 innings.

Buehrle needs to be better. He's been off and on but he hasn't been god-awful this season. I will say that Buehrle's bad starts have been really bad. I mean so bad that the offense didn't have a shot to get the lead back. That can't happen anymore.

Floyd has been fine.

In 9 of the 11 playoff victories in 2005, the home run was key:

ALDS
Game 1- 5 of them in a rout
Game 2- Iguchi's 3 run blast after the error
Game 3- Paulie went deep

ALCS
Games 3 and 4- Paulie goes deep in the first inning
Game 5- Crede hit a solo shot in the 7th or 8th to tie the game

WS
Game 1- Dye and Crede both with solo shots
Game 2- Paulie grand slam and Pods walk off
Game 3- Crede again and Blum in the 14th

I'd give certain ones crap, and deservedly so. Steve, for example, talks about that silly blue train "ending the wait" every fucking post he makes. If its not that, he's verbally giving felatio to Mac.

That extra run in the 9th today could be very very big.

You need to read Steve's posts a little more closely. Only recently has he brought back the "End the Wait" phrase -- and he hasn't given a reason for the hiatus.
