So I went to a navien customer no hot water call 3 or 4 weeks ago.
The 5 year warranty is standard. 10 years if you sent in warranty card at install
This thing was 9 years old. No warranty card sent in. So it was 4 years out of warranty.
Navien covered it. In fact they replaced the unit completely (minus labor) when they had to cover nothing.

On stepdaughter’s HWT there is a white Honeywell control box. I guess it is electronic ignition rather than pilot and has some sensors for fumes etc. thing occasionally goes wacky and shuts down water heater. Had to rest a few times very inconvenient.

Send me a picture of the system.

This would be a great thread, except I dont understand most of what u say. Terminology that I never heard before.

As a dude in a blue collar line of work, u make me feel uneducated.

I have a plumber buddy. He'll be doing the work.

Don't drain an old water heater. You could create a tank leak. Just let it chug and phlug til it craps out.

Oh so you're friends with a rep for a crappy brand and that's how you come to recommend them vs. A guy who literally works on these brands daily. Ok. Yeah. Everyone here should trust you over me.

This plumber who’s coming later today to install the water heater told me the Reehm/Ruud he could get wholesale is the same thing I’d get at Home Depot. He said it’s the same shit. The only difference is his water heater would have a sticker that says “commercial” on it. From his experience, he’s never had issues with Reehm/Ruud warranties and he said most companies are legit at honoring a real warranty, although problems will arise if a plumber doesn’t diagnose the issue properly.

I told him my guy Darko feels very different. He said that’s fine, just based on what he knows and sees.

My bad, I should have known that an adult who has a problem with the color of my screen name wouldn't do well with alternative thoughts from a source that sells thousands of water heaters a year.

Always good to see Don Tiny though.

So you'd trust a guy who has a vested interest in pushing his brand vs. a guy who has no brand loyalties at all and has not sold but serviced thousands of different brands over a decade?
Tell ya what Seacrest, let's stick to our specialties here. I'll tell people what I've seen in my line of work repairing equipment years after the sales rep can't even remember what town he installed the units in. I'll work this thread.
When a thread comes up about how to have shit customer service, how to rip off customers, or how to act unprofessionally in your trade, I'll defer to you. Deal?

I haven’t worked in the family business since the Reagan administration.
But hey, that doesn’t mean I disagree with your assessment of how they do business.

But, since it’s problematic to you to have different thoughts then your own placed here, I’ll do my best not to tell people in the future to change their own water heaters. Deal?

"Haven't worked in the family business in X years," is a lot different than saying, "I haven't been on that business's payroll in X years."

Sometimes, its what you don't say that explains everything.

Read this thread in full. I've never had a problem with anyone disagreeing with my thoughts. Get three techs in a room and you have two different opinions and a fist fight. I have a problem with you being a pompous asshole and throwing out insults and this ridiculous name badge color thing that you keep lobbing at me but never backed up.
In fact until you acted like a child I simply disagreed with you and gave an example of why I find the brand I recommend superior. Then you has to be a jerk.
Basically, you're kind of a jerk.

with inflation underway, and a decade+ decline in parts quality as it is... i dont see any manufacturer putting out quality products for awhile. remember how shitty cars were in 2009/2010? so many cost cutting measures... expect a lot more now.
