Jesus, I saw that quote this morning (I didn't see the game). 45 years ago, Fergie Jenkins wrote about how he'd tell the pitching coach where he would toss the rosin bag that day if he got to the point where he wanted them to start warming somebody up. This isn't exactly a tough analytical concept for the pitching coach or the bench coach to understand, even if Tony is asleep.

No doubt that this loss is on the lack of having McCann to catch Giolito. McCann would not have let it get that far.

I think LaRussa was looking for one out from his ace. There's not a single guy in the pen he can count on to come in with and get 2 outs with a guy in scoring position. It's completely arguable that Giolito was toast and it's a horrible decision. But it's a shame to know that when Lucas is tired, and can't get that one out, that the whole world needs to know about it.

It's a shame that a pitching coach and a catcher can't come up with a simple way of not letting their ace get into that situation this early in the season.

Gio actually got Castro "out" twice. When Castro threw his bat at the ball, the ump called it foul, but it never hit the bat. If Grandal managed to hang out to the ball every once in a fucking while, it would have been a legit strikeout anyway. Not sure if a play like that can be reviewed.

Then Castro popped up a ball up foul that the wind blew around and Moncada missed.

So he had a 5 strike at bat, and got a walk out of hit.

I'm not as disappointed in Giolito as I am the Sox offense for mustering only two runs when they were given like six extra outs last night. A Championship team turns those errors into at least 5 or 6 runs, easy.

My cousin and uncle drove in from NW Illinois for game. Paid to park and were about to sit when postponed. He said people there are pissed. Throwing beers, etc.

Listened to Bernstein and Rahimi today for a bit, and they were going ALL IN on the "LaRussa is a tremendous liability to the team and needs to step down or be removed NOW."

I'm not saying he's perfect, but it just felt like an opportunity for them to take a shot at a hire they couldn't stand. They also assumed that Katz and the other coaches are not giving any input and it's all Tony. I doubt they have a clue as to what is discussed during a game. Just because Tony takes a bullet in post game and admits something was all his fault doesn't make it true.

It is and it isnt. There has been a line of storms training over I-80 for a chunk of the afternoon. If it stayed South, they could have gotten the game in. It kept drifting northward though.

So kind of a goofy weather situation, but the Sox have done stuff before so it's tough to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I heard that as well. Zippy is right about LaRussa not being good--with his handling of the pitching staff, he's basically Robin at this point--but the Sox have played fewer than 25 games, so it is too early to tell. What's more, Bernstein just doesn't like the guy, and that came across in his comments.

Nonetheless, it would have been nice to have the guy in the other dugout.
