I was very confident they would do this. I don't blame them. If I were in their position, I'd do the same damn thing. What the hell? That's what Pace and Nagy were thinking.

But I don't mind it. QB is the most important position important position in sports. So you keep throwing darts until you hit the bullseye. A great QB makes up for all of your other flaws. And having a guy on a rookie contact is gold in the NFL.

So Dalton starts. If he sucks, the kid goes in. If the kid sucks everybody will say, "you gotta give him time." You guys know the drill.

Dalton will most likely get hurt. Cuz he always gets hurt. So that will be when Fields starts most likely.

Like I said, Pace and Nagy won't be fired no matter the record next year.

Not to mention the fact that George and Teddy are two football idiots that fear hiring new people. So they don't want to go through that stress until they have to do it. So with a rookie QB, they can use that as excuse of why they won't fire them.

That's the Bears situation.

Fields better start from Day 1.

Vegas currently has them at under 7.5 wins (out of 17 games). Let’s not forget stud Deshaun Watson went 4-12 last year. Pace has to be gone if they suck this upcoming season.

Absolutely. If you don't like this move, you should be blaming ownership first. For a GM who was already on shaky ground sticking around for this draft, he cannot invest in the future -- he needs results now. Going into this if they stand pat, they have maybe a 20% chance of hanging around... now maybe they (1) hit on a fantastic early performing QB and look like geniuses, or (2) put ownership in an even trickier situation where they see some performance from this QB but not overwhelming... they have little choice but to stand pat and let things play out because if you bring in another GM he doesn't have a first round pick and he is obliged to try to get something out of a guy you just spent two first rounders on.

I am blaming ownership for getting themselves in this situation. They should have rebooted with Pace, Nagy, and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky all at the same time, and let new people come in and start fresh. And yes, a 20th round pick wouldn't have been the best point to start from, but you could be drafting plenty of contributors from that spot, knowing that you are -VERY- likely to regress in 2021 anyway and end up with a better pick in the 2022 draft, and then go after your QB.

Incidentally, a much better GM move would have been to do what the Patriots did. You want a QB, nobody is taking them, let one fall to you. In this case, the Patriots got Jones. Let's say the Patriots wanted Fields, and then the Bears get Jones at 20. Great! You still have your first pick next year, and you have one of two QBs that everyone feels is a 50/50 chance of them actually being OK in the NFL anyway.

I love the move, but I don’t like the people making the move or the people responsible for making the move work.

Nagy and Pace should have been fired already and it should have been a different GM/Coach doing this. Nagy has shown clearly he can’t develop a player, is unable to adjust his way of thinking to work with the players strengths and weaknesses, and can’t call plays for shit. All this became incredibly obvious when Lazar took over play calling duties and Mitch along with the entire offense looked different and more balanced.

But hey, we’ll see. I really like Fields and maybe he’ll be good enough to make it all work regardless of having a bonehead for a coach.

I’m pretty sure he will. They signed Dalton in case they couldn’t move up and land their guy. Well, they moved up and got their guy. Dalton will ride the pine and I’m guessing Foles will be cut/traded at some point.

I hope not. There is value in not starting from day one especially with a shortened and potentially restricted training camp. Even if he is good enough, we would be better off hiring the Chargers trainer to get Fields inserted into the starting the lineup after a few games.

Signing Dalton looks so stupid right now. They already had Foles. Is Dalton that much of an upgrade? Would have been nice to spend that money on offensive line or receivers.

I would guess it goes about like Mitch did. Dalton will start the year as QB1 and then a few weeks in Fields takes over.

I think they have bought themselves 2021, 2022, and possibly 2023.

What quality GM candidate would want to walk into the job in 2022 with no first round pick? Pace has this year and next. Sweaty Teddy and George McClasky just showed their hand that he isn't gone after next year.

if fields shows any signs of life but the team around him faceplants and they dont win many games.... i think there will be plenty of GM candidates interested.

If the Bears suck and the offense looks bad, both are gone and they go fishing for a GM/Coach with Fields as bait. But if the Bears suck but Fields and the offense look good(major regression from the defense), then they survive, so the move to cut Fuller and keep ARob makes sense.

I don't know, it seems that's the way it's being portrayed...something that buys Pace another three years. Any one of us could have done what he did. Why should this one move negate all the shit moves?

The last thing George McCaskey wants to do is have to search and hire another GM. It's probably the thing that scares him the most in life. The quiet extensions to Pace / Nagy prove that. They have accomplished nothing to warrant extensions or any kind of confidence and they clearly have it.

It's just a life punishment to be born into Bears fandom. The Bears are an absolute clown show.

Neither Nagy nor Pace will make it past this year with a 6 or 7 win team.

If Virginia wasn't happy with mediocrity five years ago, she can't possibly be happy with the state of the team now. I don't know how you let a GM continue who botched his first chance at a QB make the same mistake trading up in giving up two-first rounders again for a guy who has a skill set only marginally better than (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

Pace has set the organization back four years again.

I dont think Pace is in any jeopardy of getting canned.

Not sure how this extends Pace's tenure. He's failed to put together a competent offense for six years or however long he's been here. He doesn't get an extension simply because he drafted a rookie QB. Fuck that. 10-6 next year or you're out. That's how it should be. I have no idea how it will be.

The refusal to answer a simple question at the press conference by Mccaskey when asked the status on Pace- Nagy contract was pretty telling..these clowns got an extension in private and we're stuck with them for awhile.

It’s a great move with the potential to be one of the best moves by any team this decade.

It’s almost impossible still for me to believe Panthers and Broncos decided theyd rather have a CB than one of the best QB prospects to come out recently.
