And they talk about managers when you passed on A.J Hinch for the drooling, addled, blubbering old fool.

They’re on pace to underperform by ~20% in that case.

Couple ways to do the math:

1) they’re winning 9 games out of every 31 they play. They’ll play 31 games ~5.2 times over the course of a big league season. 9 x 5.2 = 47.

2) they’ve won 9 games out of 31 played, good for a .290 winning percentage. Winning at that clip over 162 games...162 x .29 = 47 games.

No arguments there.

But the old man is getting a ton of heat for seemingly minor shit that barely matters.

How do you measure a manager in order to "regard" him?

That's a great narrative there, bernstein.

It's funny that li'l danny thinks he's Joe SABRmetrics but he must not have read the chapter yet that discusses how managers are pretty much immaterial.

Well, that's a great argument for AJ Hinch.

Then you should check with Mac to see who is really the best regarded.

1-Apr Failing to make review time window, Leury starts opening day, no pinch hitter for him late.

4-Apr Bullpen usage - Bummer never used in close game

7-Apr Bullpen usage - Foster comes in with Bummer and Hendricks needing work, gives up 5 runs.

11-Apr Couple of poorly thought out bunts, pinch running for Mercedes early left no backup Ofs. Williams hits 5th, Lamb hits 7th, Mercedes benched against Bieber. Hendricks not used in the 10th.

27-Apr keeps Lucas Giolito in when it was obvious to everybody that he was toast. "We were looking for a single there." Insists postgame that he was awake.

5-May Messes up double-switch, calls for Leury to steal 2nd with the freaking AL pitcher on 3rd base, negating the possibility of a double steal. Leury is out. Hamilton bats with man on 3rd instead of pinch hitting (LOL), rulebook read to him by reporter.

I get that some of you love TLR, especially since he stands for everything Bernstein doesn't. You don't need to let that.blind you. Anybody that knows a lick about baseball can see that TLR has been terrible. A manager shouldnt potentially cost the team this many games this early in the season.

I'm honestly surprised people defend him at this point. I actually had high hopes for La Russa from a tactical managing standpoint. Unfortunately, he has been an absolute trainwreck. Manager typically don't make a huge difference to the team's record if they are above average or below average. But when you are making monumental and baffling mistakes on a regular basis, it can really hurt your team. Managers aren't usually this bad.

And of course if the White Sox had <insert manager here> , all those moves wouldve been corrected , he wouldnt have made any " mistakes" and the Sox would be sailing right along.

How great a manager is AJ Hinch ? when his team doesnt need to cheat to win that is .

IMO he's cost them 1-2 wins and we arent even 1/3rd of the season on. That is significant

The Cubs got the most highly regarded manager on the market when they hired Maddon and all we here about his tenure is that he was terrible and the Cubs won in spite of him .

You follow a lot of Detroit baseball ? Im guessing Hinch had made a couple moves that cost them wins by now. Just like all managers.

I’m not sure why you view that as a defense. This isn’t just a couple of bad plays. That’s a lot this far into the season.

I barely think about Tony LaRussa at all.

By the way, baseball genius, he didn't "mess up the double switch."
