Yeah, I'll admit, it rankled me a bit to see Eddie Murphy on Friday Night Videos with his ridiculous Party All The Time.

I’ll say yes. The guy was a freak athlete that played for almost 20 years in pro football. Archie Griffin had a nice career also.

Are you saying Walker didn't earn that chance and only got it because of his story? I would agree with that.

He was one of the best NFL players at the time though.

Did you read Doc's post? No, that's not what he is saying.

I can't tell when you are trolling anymore.

The Biden stuff is hilarious btw.

Are you sure? What do you think he is saying? It seems to me he is saying that Walker got a chance on the bobsled because he was an all-pro football player.

Bobsled isn't a revenue sport, nor is it a place to go to attention whore like Tebow.

I'd actually had forgotten that the Saints offered him a chance to be Taysom Hill six years ago and he turned them down as it was beneath him. In his mind.

There are plenty of precedents to use “popular/famous/underachieving athletes” to promote a sport. In addition to MJ and Herschel, Lolo Jones was used in bobsled because she is fast, but more important, hot and marketable.

The Jaguars are the least marketable team in the NFL. They basically closed off their upper deck because they can’t fill it. They play more games than any other team in London because it is more profitable for them to do so. They may actually move to London.

So, to throw Tebow on the roster (if he makes the team) as the 53rd guy to sell tickets makes sense for them.

That's been my point all along. Tebow's "story" has been very beneficial to his career. Lolo is a great example too.

He's got low miles and excellent move TE traits so not sure what the big deal is. Some of these linebackers talking smack are going to look pretty stupid if they have to cover him. His 3-cone at the combine was top 97% for a player his size which is beyond elite. I don't think this is a Jaguars thing either if he made it known he wanted to come back as a tight end he would get invited to a lot of camps.

That's the dominant part of his story.

I think some of his appeal is Christianity, but there are plenty of Christian athletes that don’t have his “Q” rating. His appeal includes his religion, but also work ethic, talent, leadership, good looks, wholesomeness, etc.

Brick, I think you you over simplify this to think it’s all religion.

And like others have said, I hated him at Florida. Sort of pulling for him now.

I imagine that’s true for you.

But if you’re back to suggesting McDaniels traded up for him because he’s a prominent evangelical and that Meyer likes him for the same reason, I think you’re a bit off base.

I didn’t mention the TV gig either but that’s not because I’m suddenly of the view that he uses his religion to advance his professional goals.

Rick, your posting history (today about parish consolidation for example) lends credence to your not being a Tebow fan due to religious reasons. You might not be wrong but seems that is what you mean by “his story”.

Of course it’s a Jaguars thing. Florida, Meyer, team in need of fans = Tebow is no coincidence. Your statement might have had validity 7 or 8 years ago.

There are plenty of other pro athletes and NFL players that are deeply religious. Reggie White, Don Beebe, Rivers.....these guys never had any problem living their life and talking about it. I have no idea why it shadows Tebow so much. It isn't like he is a complete douche nozzle like kirk cameron.

Maybe it has something to do with Urban using him as the whitewash for his despicable program at florida where he had no problem recruiting and retaining multiple murderers and rapists and just all around horrible people. Tebow is taking the heat here for this move while its 100 percent because of Urban. He is using him for something and Tebow is getting another jersey to put on for it.

No it’s just types like Rick and Bernsie hating them. Again, not a fan of either but for chrissake just be honest. You think it’s just another person using righteous religion to get ahead.

I think your disagreement with most of us is that you are conflating Tebow’s popularity to his religion only. There is more to it than that, as MANY have pointed out other Christian athletes that have failed to garner his popularity.

I think it is more of a “Q” rating, which can’t be quantified but is easy to recognize (like porn). Some athletes that have high Q ratings, regardless of religion include: MJ, Bird, Barkley, Pete Rose, Joe DiMaggio, Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods, A-Rod, Bo Jackson, Deone Sanders, etc.

Putting Tebow on that list is hilarious. It's like a "Name one that is not like the others" school question.

Tebow likely has the highest Q-anon rating of all of them.

He isn't 33 in NFL years and half the league is looking for a move tight end. If it wasn't Jacksonville he'd get an invite from several teams. Jacksonville was the obvious choice but if Meyer wasn't there he'd be in camp with New England, Vegas, or San Francisco among others. He hasn't been on the couch since he left the league...I doubt he's lost any of his quickness and he has the traits.
