how is that not infield fly? SS could have caught the ball with ordinary effort. That's literally what the rule is for.

And Higgins still doesn't have his first hit thanks to Kim having the presence of Kim to throw it in to 3B before falling down in pain.

These mf-ers are going to make me watch all these games this Summer now.

That was not on the schedule. I had them on the "check in a few innings a game" plan.

Do we really still have Alcantara?

I thought we got rid of him a few years ago.

Did we just call him up from Iowa or some shit?

I cannot believe Caritini didnt call for a slider on that 3-2 pitch and watch Javy swing out of his shoes. Instead he leaves a change-up up in the zone and Javy hits it a mile.

Before the pitch Caratini repeatedly motioned to keep it VERY low, like out of the strike zone low.

Well it was low, but in the strike zone at the knees. Caratini's reaction was as 'Fuck, I knew it' as I've seen from a catcher.

Well Caratini hit 1 HR in his return. Schwarbino hit 2.

Good to see the ex-Cubs do good in their first visit back.

Not all of them. I think Wisdom and Duffy have earned the right to play out the year. (Wisdom has an option remaining, so there is no way they are trading him any time soon, given all the injuries across MLB this year.) Let's see if the team can maintain this pace. I'm sure that winning the division was the last thing that management expected, but given what a crapshoot the NL East is this year, who knows.

The NL Central winner has a path because the three NL West teams will beat each others' brains in and face each other both in the WC and in the NLDS. If they can pull out the NL Central, the Cubs would draw probably Atlanta, maybe the Mets. Atlanta will be lucky to win 84 games this year.

The piece I would trade off is Happ. Happ has regressed again, and he always seems more interested in his side hustles than actually not hitting .200. (Heyward goes without saying, but he has 10/5 no-trade rights so he isn't going anywhere.)

I'd trade Baez in about a month. I think he'll go on a run offensively. But the dude is still free-swinging and he's going to prompt a decent return in trade, and there's no way you re-sign that guy.

I look at it as a BoSox Nomar trade, where everybody goes "What?" but it works out in the end....

Maybe if the Howard kid was close to being ready. But since he isn't, who is the answer at SS then?

I dont see any way they trade Baez. I think Contreras is the one who eventually gets dealt.

Maybe I guess. I just dont see him as a SS, he seems like the perfect long term fit at 2B
