Sounds like a win/win. New stadium and new owners.

I hear you, but I like people like Mama Bear and Uncle Jerry. I wouldn't want someone without a Chicago connection to own my favorite teams.

Pat Ryan is the future and sufficiently Chicagoish. He’s not exactly a young man; hopefully there are some Rocky Wirtz-types lined up behind him.

He is about to get a lot richer. His latest venture, RT Specialty has filed to go public. They are going to be worth many billions. They are the number two wholesale insurance broker and most certainly the best. After building Aon, what an amazing second act for the 80 year old.

Right! Wrigley will always be Wrigley too.

It's funny that she thinks she has the leverage in this enough to come out with something like that. It's going to be pretty funny if she ends up being the mayor that sent the Bears to the suburbs because she laughed and made fun of them as they were actively trying to purchase land for a new stadium.

She's just playing the old "hits" at this point. Her sports fandom was initially endearing.

She has 23 months left, she will go down as the worst mayor in history. She gave downtown away to criminals and chased away tourism and business.

This morning Mully had Dan Pompeii on and read Lightfoot’s statement that the Bears should just worry about beating the Packers and that everything else “is just noise.” Pompeii responded that the only noise he hears lately from Chicago is gunfire. Ouch.

What's the park district's hesitation about installing Field Turf? Never understood that.

But hey, when Justin finally starts a game it will at least be Fields' turf.

It actually causes more injuries than grass.

That might be true for good grass, but I have a hard time believing it's true for the grass at Soldier Field.

Soldiers Field divots and craters haven't caused any major injuries. Seeing the footing issues are still annoying. You would like to believe they could find someone to reduce them.

After reading her comment I was trying to think of a subtle, yet poignant way for the Bears to respond. I was coming up with, "well, maybe if they had a reliable surface to play on, that would help..." and other things along those lines...

But that is spot on.

At least it isn't as bad as when St. Louis was like "Hey Rams, if you don't like it here then leave" and the Rams basically said "ok, bye" and now they have a nice big stadium that hosts rodeos or dirt racing or something else.

i've noticed people saying the playing surface sucks at soldier field.... from my view in the stands, i think the playing surface has greatly improved the last couple of years. it isnt nearly as bad as it used to be where you could see the lines between pieces of sod because they were re-sodding it so often

I thought the part of the turf decision is the city doesn’t want to alienate FIFA and they won’t play on the fake stuff.

I think you’re right about that. If memory serves, one of the papers covered how they swapped out the sod a few years ago with product from a new supplier. I don’t recall any major complaints the past few years.

The Fire is back from Bridgeview, we’ll see if that does anything to the turf.

Will this lead to a new stadium at Arlington Park...that will include an in house casino?

Wouldn't that be something?

I have no issue with the Bears moving to the suburbs.

My only hope would be that the city could lure another NFL franchise to move to Chicago and play in Soldier Field.

Fuck the Bears.

It feels icky to see a team partnering up with a casino/sportsbook.

My guess is this happens because it is in fact a done deal that they are buying Arlington Park.

Not really the way it went down; Kroenke was scheming to get out of there from the day he bought 100% of the team. (It's actually weird considering he became a part-owner to move them from Anaheim to St. Louis.) There was nothing St. Louis could have done to keep the team. It was for the best, anyway. There were more Bears fans downstate than Rams fans.
