This would be 8 Bears games but I assume there would be MANY more events if they built a multipurpose stadium.

No, it's just reality rather than fairy dust fiction. Very few acts can sell tickets to fill a football stadium.

You're talking about 2-3 events maybe a year.

The Bears would probably build an outdoor stadium that seats 38,000 with retro-AstroTurf.

In that case just retro-fit the stadium the Fire built and then vacated.

Offer Kenny Chesney a residency.

That would work! Wrigleyville/Lincoln Park Big 10 grads with suburban teens would pack that sucker every night

Goofy bastard.

Look, not sure if you're familiar with the area. It's slightly different than the sticks.

Your argument is an argument against a stadium. 8 days of usage versus a mixed-used entertainment district generating commerce on a daily basis via property taxes, sales taxes and permanent jobs.

I wonder which residents prefer?

I grew up in the area.

As I say I live within walking distance. I have not found anyone who is opposed. 100% support.

Yeah, but the Packers fans, and Curious Hair who I think is an Expos fan, are against it.

I'm getting sick of this story without any new facts. It's been over a week. When are we gonna find out who wins the bid?

I saw a reposting of a story from Crain's or some such paper that sounded reasonable. Bears would only buy a portion (the less choice, interior part of the lot) of the property for minimal money. They would easily get financing for the deal. The remainder of the property would actually increase in value because of the new stadium to an amount that the part would be more valuable than the original whole. The Bears value would be similarly increased from 3.5 to a now 5-6 billion because of the new stadium

The story didn't say this but even if the bid was accepted today, this is a minimum of 5 years to completion and I expect 5 is overly optimistic. The sale itself probably wouldn't be completed in this calendar year. Then, you have to assume at least a year for entitlements from Arlington Heights. However, they would also be looking for infrastructure from multiple state, government and federal agencies so I would say two years. 2-2.5 years for construction of the building and improvements to access the site. That is a timeline with everything hitting perfectly. Good luck with that.

It's not really a true bid. If I were them I'd be talking to the two highest bidders to try and get them to up their offers

It would make sense that they would want to create a Bearsville, ala Wrigleyville...with bars, restaurants, hotels and housing.

the expert in the story opined that the selling group would want to retain that property for sale or development as the new stadium would make that property much more valuable.

Arlington Heights will most likely want some kind of master plan for the entire site.

I've heard that Arlington Heights residents wouldn't be happy about the Bears moving there.

Until they see how nice a dome is in December when it's 30 degrees out.

I'm sure the technology exists to keep the field frigid but the fans reasonably warm

Retractable dome is the only way to go.

Let the meatballs cry about their cold weather football.

For the most part, it looks like regular Arlington Heightsers want it, Bears fans want it, and the Bears themselves want it. It's going to happen in spite of some loud protests.

Opens the possibility for so many more events to be hosted in the stadium too.
