No. It certainly is devistating. They still can make the playoffs. They would have been the least favorite AL team if Quentin was playing in the playoffs. This makes them even less of a favorite to advance in the playoffs.

But if the pitching throws good games they always have a chance.

Is there a word on what the injury is? If it's one of those fast healers he might be back by ALDS. Are there any restrictions against placing him on playoff roster if he sat out the rest of the regular season?

As long as you are on the active roster or DL on August 31st, you are eligible for the playoffs. Rosters are set per series, so technically, he could sit out the regular season, ALDS and ALCS, then play in the World Series.

That's a good question, Vinny. I think it hinges on how far the White Sox advance should they make the playoffs...I don't know which injury is bigger though, Joe Crede's stiff back or the news concerning Carlos Quentin's fractured wrist... :?

I have a faith in Big Herm's ability to loosen up Crede's back for the playoffs by sitting on it.

Still looks awful actually. He has 4 more hits than strikeouts. I would like to see Anderson carry the load rather than Jr.

Remember the White Sox won the World Series in 2005 without Frank Thomas. :?

BA is much better in the field , but his lack of AB's against live pitching is a worry.

BA plays against leftys; Griffey plays against righties. There are more righties and Griffey can't play every day anyway cuz he's old and ouchy.

They are what they are.

You need Dye, Konerko, Ramirez, Thome and Swisher to step up. That's what you need. A hit from Griffey every now and then will be enough if these guys are hitting.

I don't think he could come back this year. It took Derrick Lee a year to get any power back and I don't think he ever got back the power he had before the injury.

Sucks for the Sox.

Walt, if Brian Anderson is the best centerfielder on this White Sox roster, he should be playing! I can't help it his manager Ozzie is so damn stubborn that B.A. can't crack the starting lineup more consistently! In fact, if I'm Brian's agent, I'm wondering what in the hell it will take to get back in Ozzie's good graces...The fact he isn't playing more than as a late inning replacement baffles me!

Lee's injury was much more serious. He broke 2 bones in the wrist. There are different degrees of wrist breaks. I don't know how serious Quentin's is.

We're facing a lefty today. BA should be in the line up.

Beardown, it's believed Carlos fractured the wrist Monday night in Cleveland, although he was getting plunked quite a bit before the injury.

HEY! Which one of us is a doctor here, huh?!?

I didn't hear how severe it was but I think even the most minor of breaks would require 6+ weeks before you could start swinging a bat with any authority and I'm thinking 12+ is more likely.

Thanks. We're all aware of this. That's why this thread is in progress.

Maybe. But they are opting to put a screw in it. Isn't that a good sign. Instead of a cast? Wasn't Lee in a cast right when he did it?

ESPN Radio 1000's Bruce Levine says that Quentin will undergo surgery Monday at Rush Medical Center and mentioned something about a screw being put in. He'll be re-evaluated in about 2-3 weeks.

Because they didn't say it was two breaks. Two is worse than one.

Well the reality is I doubt anyone really knows how serious it is until they get in there.

But they already have determined to put a screw in. Bones are clear on X rays. They've figured it out. It's not tendons. I don't know. Just holding out hope.

Maybe he can play with some pain. I doubt he can do much more damage. We'll see. Maybe 1 month to heal will be enough to tolerate whatever pain there is.

I would imagine the pain would only be on the swing. Maybe he can put up with a sharp pain on his 4 or 5 at bats per game. Hopefully he hits line drives on his first swing of each at bat.

We might have a Roy Hobbs moment in the World Series for the Sox.

Game 7. Bottom of the 9th. Sox down 3. Bases loaded. Billy bear is called to pinch hit...
