Hawaii is about as good as it gets. The only place that could come close to even with it was Venice. Have a great time!

After my bout with pneumonia and an “all clear” from the doc today, tonight will be my first night having a beer in over 3 weeks. My wife said we “can stay up tonight” which will be the first time in over a month. Think this has been the longest sexless streak I’ve had in 15ish years.

Took a King of the Mountain yesterday. It's a very short sprint segment but fastest out of almost 7400 recorded rides seems like an accomplishment. I must have had some wind behind me because I don't think I could hit 36 mph on the flat otherwise. Maybe it's slightly downhill. I'm not sure. I didn't even realize I was going like that. If I had known I was that close to a KOM I would have ridden harder and tried to break the tie. That Aaron Katin guy who is in third place is a beast. No way I can ride with him.

my niece won the chicago 60 meters in her age group.

reports seem to painstakingly write a story about how the new facility is an investment in equity and all of their profiles of runners followed that narrative. Then they show a picture of the podium

Good for her, but who runs the 60 outdoors? She must be under 10, at which point it's a big deal.

Congrats.

Quietly my out of state, adult sons pick up my phone calls on the first or second ring and we always finish with I love you.

It's funny because I can see a distinct line of softening from my grandfather's generation to mine. And I'm grateful. I just wish I could have been as expressive 40 years ago.

I thank the good lord everyday that my first born was a daughter who taught me to be soft and opening loving vs what I was taught by my father. And to be fair, my father is light years ahead of his father in that regard. I remarked to my mom a few years ago (And have had this conversation with me brother) that my dad had never said he loved me. As a younger man I think it thought it meant he didn't. As an older person I realize that is not the case but he never was going to say it and I had to just accept it and him for who he was but I would not but my boys in the same situation. Oh well. It was one of those aging realizations that matter and I have had more good conversations with my dad about life in the past 5 years than I did in the previous 40. Either he has softened in general or as I've aged I've had experiences to talk to him about that he could relate to... Still.. Wish we had those conversations around 1995.

I'm glad that you did. I still find it difficult with my own parents. They're both still old school, but I never doubted it 30 plus years ago. I said it to one of my favorite aunts a few years ago and she responded in a really stilted way.

And she was the one who helped me get a full ride to college and an entry to the professional world.

And talked yesterday.

My mom had a cardiac incident right around her 80th birthday earlier this year. It was just another reminder that I needed to do better i regards to letting my folks know that I love and appreciate them. Hell of a birthday call from mom I’ll tell ya (My birthday is day before her birthday)

All that said.. still need to work on it with my brother. It’s been said but we still struggle connecting.

Somewhat related, the Noisewater men aren’t the type to tell each other we love them.

It’s my fault but I only know what I was taught.

I do wish I’d had one daughter. I see the way my wife and her sister cared for the father and the way they still honor him - I could go for that.

My boys are now old enough to tell me how old, dumb, and out of touch I am. They’re right and I appreciate that they are just like me. But I now realize that I’m a lot to deal with.

It's still a great feeling knowing the benefits of trying. I'm still a little surprised about it. But it's It's one of the things that binds us all. Hopefully it only gets better.

You aren't alone. I too always wanted a daughter. And then I realized that my sons are like pit bulls on my behalf.

I don't think my father ever said I've you to me either.
But I'm certain he does when his ac doesn't work.

My son is way more affectionate and caring than my edgy daughter.

My grandfather was the hardest man I knew, but looking back on it, he told us through his actions.

His surprising 11 hour trip to my college graduation shocked the hell out of me. At the time. Then you take it all in context

I was serious!

My dad didn't really say I love you until I was older.

I try to say it to my kids at least once a day. Usually more.
