Just when I was starting to enjoy Matt's show this evening, he prefaces the first call he takes by saying how much he appreciates everyone who calls all the shows on WSCR and doesn't hide behind the anonymity of text messages and message boards and aren't afraid to have a conversation.

I assume this was directed at Beardown regarding their recent exchange.

Well, the people who listen to the shows don't always have the time, or inclination, to he put on hoooold for an extended period of time or they don't want to bother getting shouted down or cut off by a host who uses his position as a host to manipulate the conversation. I'm sure Matt will insist he doesn't do this, and I haven't heard enough of his solo stuff to know if that's true or not.

However, this is 2008 after all and technology allows listeners and hosts like Matt to interact with their audience in a manner other than phone calls to the show. IMO, Matt might want to take a page out of Mac's book when it comes to recognizing the long-time listeners that are on the message board and dropping the BS "if you don't call you're a coward" nonsense.

Message boards are a great form of entertainment, especially while at work.

He's entitled to his opinion, but just because he's got a microphone to broadcast them more important. I really could care less what he thinks.

I think once White Sox season ends, Matt Abbatacola is going to get a chance to host shows after dark when "The SCORE" won't have as many games to broadcast. I think he's off base in his criticism of message boards like this. For starters, I'm not a coward! I have thoughts concerning the teams, the players, etc. like everyone else. I don't have time to call either station, be placed on hold for who knows how long, and once my turn comes, I lose my thought & forget why the hell I called! Since this is 2008, and because not everyone wants to call in to SportsRadio 670, there is this thing called texting...

I think that's Abbatacola's nickname...By the way, why the hell was he on for 1 hour before they switched to Westwood One's coverage of the Vikings/Packers' "Monday Night Football" game after it was learned the White Sox/Blue Jays' game was rained out?

Just kidding. Who cares? You got to yell on the radio. That's cool. That's the goal of radio. Get pissed about bullshit and scream to the high heavens. We certainly do that on this board at times. Myself included.

I don't think I'm a coward or hiding. I thought we were talking here. If I talk to you on the phone you still don't know who the hell I am. Once again, would your listeners want to hear our argument? No. They're driving home and want to hear sports. Not "Sports Radio" talk. That's what this board is for.

It's popular to make "message boards" the enemy. It's funny cuz when Sports radio hit the scene newspapers and TV made them the enemy and called them the "low lifes". Now Sports radio has done the same to this type of forumn. Drinky, based on what you guys said, was able to praise his callers while calling us low-lifes. That's cool. Whatever. Gotta come up with a topic. Drinky did. Gotta fill that grueling half-hour show. I feel proud. I was the reason for a radio topic. This is up there as an acomplishment in my god-awful life. I don't have many.

I don't understand Matt, or any other host, being upset about the "anonymity" of the message boards. When you call up (ya' call up...) you don't give them your full name, phone number, address, and social security number. You're "Bob from Orland" or some silly moniker. I don't think that holds any water.

That's like telling a caller "Well why don't you come down to the station and say it to my face instead of hiding behind the phone and some phony name!"

Tad Queasy has some good stuff man. Drinky mocks message boards for their anonymity? I've given them fake names on air, fake names on emails, fake names on faxes, so how is my fake name here any different?! I might run for office someday so I don't want to use my real name, ain't that right Jessica Simspons Panties?!

y'know...I called up to talk Cubs and Matty was talking Bears. I was also going to defend the message board. What happens? Producers say call in with a Bears thought...well sorry, all out. When I call back 5 minutes later after having come up with a Bear thought, the line is busy...and busy...and busy. And that's how I spent a half an hour of my life last night. Love ya Drinky, but hold off on the message board criticism if you're tossing a blanket statement.
