Right. But they knew the radar hours ago. They decided to start it. Had the tarp off then changed their minds.

I'm just saying the umps could have called it long ago. Didn't have to wait this long. They were willing to play it during the rain and decided against it.

It's fine. But tomorow might be canceled too.

It's a double header on Sunday now. Both of those games could be canceled.

Red Sox and Blue Jays are playing on ESPN now.

They are playing in the same drizzle that was at the Cell.

Twins were postponed tonight as well

Doubleheader for the Twins on Saturday.

Doubleheader for the Sox on Sunday.

The forecast for Sunday is awful, heavy showers all day.

They absolutely HAD to get this game in tonight, it's ridiculous that they didn't even try. With heavy rain forecasted for tomorrow and Sunday, it would have been a nightmare to try and figure out a way to squeeze two games in the rest of the year.

Now they might have to find a way to figure out how to get three in. To top it off, the Sox are f'd because Fox has tomorrow's game and ESPN has the Sunday game. It'd be impossible to play two tomorrow because of Fox's broadcast rights agreement.

Absolute joke, every time I've been outside, it's been a slight drizzle at best.

It's already been decided.

Doublehearder on Sunday.

That was my point. It's gonna be worse the next two day.

Like I said, I'm watching Boston on ESPN, they are playing in the same drizzle that was at the Cell. They're in the 7th. It's been a steady drizzle all game long there.

No way they get two in on Sunday. Not a chance.

If the forecast doesn't change, that first game is going to have to try and start at 11:00 am if they are going to fight in game rain delays, get the game in, clear the park for the night cap at 7:00.

Having ESPN broadcast that second game absolutely f's everything up. If the Sox had the ability to control the start time of that game, at least they could juggle the start times based on the forecast.

It'll be a logistical nightmare if the first game on Sunday ends after 6.

Anybody live on the South side or South Suburbs? Cuz I'm NW of the city and it's not raining. Hasn't been for over an hour.

The umps are really stupid. It really wasn't that bad tonight.

I just heard two games Saturday now instead of two on Sunday. Straight doubleheader tomorrow. Seems to make the most sense, tomorrow could be a really long day though.

Oh really? They changed it. Good. They must have checked the forecast. Cuz the aftermath of "Ike" is gonna hit here on Sunday.

Just read Whitesox.com. They're gonna start the 2nd game right after the 3pm FOX game is over. Half hour after the first game they say.

So I guess people are gonna get 2 for 1 tomorrow. You can't clear the parking lot and stadium in a half hour. Straight refund for the 40k people who bought tickets for tonights game I guess. Wow. Reinsdorf lost some money.

Unless Reinsdorf makes those tickets good for the last series of the year vs the Indians. But I'm sure a lot of tickets are sold for those games. Especially the lower bowl. So Reinsdorf will have to eat tonights sold tickets. It was a sell out tonight.

I'm glad it wasn't a doubleheader on Sunday. You can focus on the Bears game now. Sucks when Sox and Bears play at the same time.

I have a luxury suite ticket for tomorrow. If I'm up for the marathon, I could gain 15 pounds. :drunken:

Although the weather.com forecast has 70%-90% chance of rain for every hour of the day through 9p.m.

Tonight is a great example as to why every new ballpark should have a retractable roof. that way you have an outdoor ballpark 95% of the time, but can still play a game if the weather turns bad. Milwaukee had the right idea and did a great job with Miller Park. Plus, if it's 35 degrees outside, they can close it up and heat it. Come October, when the playoffs will be going on in Chicago (at least on the North side) it might be kinda chilly, and a retractable roof then, might be pretty nice too.

This will prove what a farce the "cut off beer sales" is. They do this for safety. Right? That's what they say.

Think about it. They cut off beer sales in the 7th. So it would stand to reason that the Sox won't sell beer during the 2nd game. If they think 7 innings is enough how can they let people drink for 2 games? It's gonna be the same people in the park.

There is no way in hell the Sox are gonna turn down 7 innings of beer sales during the 2nd game. Hell, they'll start selling them once the first game is over. I say why bother cutting off sales in the 7th of the 1st game. What is 2 innings gonna matter. What's the point. But I'll bet they'll keep that policy for the 1st game. Just to act like they care.

I like the idea of a retractable roof, especially because Milwaukee's Miller Park & Phoenix's Chase Field, the former BankOne Ballpark, actually grow 100% natural grass in their ballparks...Although the Minnesota Twins are building a new ballpark of their own for 2010, I'm not so sure they'll have a similar roof of their own because they tend to get really cold...

Hey Casual Fan, Let me know how they work that beer policy. I'm just curious.

It's a Saturday. A lot of people are gonna wanna drink. Games are gonna go from 3-9:30. People will be boozing it up in the parking lot before hand. There will be rain delays. Last game could go until 1am possibly.

There are gonna be some drunk people in that park tomorrow.

Hey Ranger!!!

Long time no talk.

Long day for you tomorrow, huh? This is fun though. I'm sure it is for you too.

(I've noticed Ranger is here right now)

I'm waiting for the Hurricane to hit.

I'm also waiting for an angry Frank Costanza to hit the board.

He said he was going to the game. I'm sure he was pissed that it was canceled.

How bad was it at the Cell? When did you leave the park? How hard was it raining? They called it at 7:35. It didn't seem that bad.

I'm quite happy.

Not bad at the Cell. Either they should have started the game, or called it at 5:00

Rain, but nothing more than a drizzle.

That's what it looked like on TV.

They played in a steady drizzle in Boston tonight. It's gonna be worse tomorrow and Sunday.

Umps fault. Sox and Tigers were set to play.

Too bad, Beardown did not have an avenue to take out his frustrations tonight.
I hope this unfortunate turn of events did not lead to an excess of self flagellation.
My prayers are with him and any unsuspecting females he may have come in contact with.
Godspeed, young man, godspeed....

Looks like the whole weekend is gonna be a wash. Between this front and the remainer of Ike, MLB is going to have to do something to extend the season to make up these games. You can't expect teams in a playoff race to play 3 double headers in September. 7 games were rained out last nite, and Boston played in a steady drizzle.

Today's doubleheader is now officially called off.

They really had to get that game in last night. Now they're having a day/night doubleheader tomorrow. Forecast is terrible for tomorrow, and in the event that first game gets in, they could have a logistical nightmare on there hands if that game gets delayed/goes extras.

The forecast is not promising for a split doubleheader, especially the one in the afternoon. According to ABC 7's Phil Schwarz, we're supposed to get the remnants of Hurricane Ike tomorrow before the rain FINALLY GETS THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!! Then again, Steve Stone made a valid point earlier today with Chris Rongey on "White Sox Weekly", especially in where this rain is headed. It may follow the Sox to Yankee Stadium, where they're supposed to play four to start a ten-game roadie. I don't care how shorthanded the Sox are...Eliminating the Yankees would be nice, Sox fans!

I think we should be ok to play tomorrow, assuming that this current system is out of here.

Weather.com has the projected path of Ike (what's left of it) being central Illinois by the early PM.

Meanwhile the Twins win again, to pull to within a half game of 1st. The Sox have not been able to play a single game since this thread was posted and the Twins have just continued to gain ground. Seems like THIS is the jinxed thread......

That was a HUGE two-out hit by Uribe. Now Vasquez needs to continue to shut them down.
