Who takes a first round QB and gives him a package of plays? It's like the worst of both worlds. Either play him or don't, mannnnn. They're going to screw this thing up, aren't they.

Lance threw a TD yesterday, The bear offense will go nowhere with A.D.

Nagy can shut it about comparing this to developing Mahomes. The Chiefs didn't randomly bring Mahomes in for a few plays here or there. It's just strange. Either play Fields or not. This was just a compromise that didn't make any sense. Why bring in Fields for a shuffle pass?

Alex Smith had KC in the playoffs, they had a top 10 offense.. you can't compare Andy and Fields to Smith and Mahomes.

Why do I get the feeling that if Kansas City had drafted (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and the Bears had drafted Mahomes that Mitch would be the Madden coverboy and Mahomes would be a backup somewhere after being a mediocre Bear starter?

NO

Mitch came out of college with little experience, bad mechanics, an inability to read defenses and a real lack of mental toughness.

He has experience now, but still struggles with the other three issues.

Can you name the last quarterback the Bears developed? Fuck, Erik Kramer is arguably the greatest Bear QB of all time.

Mitch wouldn't be what Mahomes is, but he would for sure be the best QB from that draft now.

Mahomes would've had everything that makes him special coached out of him by the Bears.

Initially I thought Nagy brought him in for a few plays because he was trying not to lose the locker room while still sticking to his guns on Dalton. I'm having a hard time believing it though.

I do not understand how it is the worst of both worlds. It is not ideal and I fully believe he should be starting, but getting him any type of field time against teams #1 defense is better than him holding a clip board all game. Some of you are going to complain no matter what. The OL and defense are bigger concerns right now than what they are doing with Fields.

I can't and I tend to agree with your statement on Kramer.

The Pace/Nagy duo is like a bad corporate training video. Long on empty platitudes, but woefully short on real leadership and actual results.

If they’re not going to start him it’s perfectly reasonable. I said we’d see him in the Red Zone because Nagy loves overcomplicating things there with putting in defensive players and weird-ass plays. Honestly surprised he wasn’t in there more in the RZ or those 4th down failures.

I have no issue with them getting Fields feet wet. The shovel pass was odd and the end around was dumb, but Fields wasn't doing a great job selling the plays. While Fields looks comfortable, I don't believe he's comfortable with what he's seeing or comfortable with the playbook.

Dalton was mostly fine. His quick release made a suspect offensive line adequate.

The Bears didn't develop Kramer. He was already a proven starter in Detroit.

Jim McMahon and Jay Cutler are unquestionably the best Bears QBs in our lifetimes. Seacrest was around for Luckman so he gets three to pick from.

The Bears developed Orton into a serviceable game manager I guess. He did go on to be the classic QB vet you sign to play until you find someone better guy.

Honestly from a draft and develop standpoint, Orton is the best QB ever developed by the Bears. Unreal.

I think you could make the argument that McMahon wasn't developed all that successfully. I mean he was a top 5 pick @ QB who never lead the league in any meaningful QB statistic, never threw more than 15 TDs in a season. That's not what you are looking for in a top 5 pick QB production wise.

Don't get me wrong, love McMahon for who he was and what he did, but I don't think you'd say the Bears successfully developed him after taking him as high as they did.

Keep your potential franchise QB on the sidelines, coming in for what, 7 plays, a couple of which were just hand-off's and keep a lackluster, serviceable veteran out there dinking and dunking for 5 -10 yards when Montgomery isn't doing the rest of the work.

Sounds about right... Well that and those fucking 4th down plays and that misdirection play in the first series that makes me want to punch puppy dogs, but...

Normally I'd agree with ya on something like this but Mitch was a bimbo, couldn't even master the playbook let alone execute it. I knew Sam Darnold would look much better after he left the Jets..I think Sam Darnold could win a couple SB in San Fran or K.C.

I thought the approach seemed to have two objectives:

1. Get him used to "NFL game speed" in situations where he really can't fuck up too much or get himself killed thanks to a porous offensive line
2. Get some plays on tape to make the next couple of teams have to game plan for Fields as well as Dalton

The worst thing they could have done was kept him on the bench the entire first half and then brought him in after they were down two TD and had lost both Peters and Borom. The absolute biggest thing right now is to keep Fields from either getting killed or developing bad habits trying desperately not to get killed.

I never watched him at Ohio State, so I don't know if the plays he ran were ones similar to what he ran in college.

I actually expect to see him less against the Bengals because I think they will play more guys in the box and dare the Bears to try and pass protect, and if both Peters and Borom are out or hobbled they aren't going to put him in passing or read-option situations there.

I have no doubt if the coin had flipped differently and the Bears got the first pick, Terry Bradshaw would have been a bum at QB

The Bears haven't developed a starting quarterback in 40 years.

This.
I didn't expect the Bears to win or for the game be close. My takeaways:
- The O-Line sucks as bad as many thought
- As expected....further regression for the Defense.
- The Bears actually ran the ball more than I predicted. I'm sure that absolutely pained Nagy.
- Dalton looked better than I expected. Doesn't mean he was good, but he wasn't awful.

The Rams are a good team. The schedule isn't full of good teams. They'll get some wins...enough to remain firmly entrenched in Football hell.

My first thought is jim mcmahon but if you.look.at the #s... man, he was totally pedestrian even in 1985. Sure there's something to be said about being a winning quarterback much like a winning pitcher, but i don't think.jim mcmahon was ever "great" which means it comes down to am argument over who really developed sid luckman?

It just gets me that other teams can take a guy like Heidetke off the street and he throws for over 300 while its a miracle when a Bear QB throws for that amount
