Where would you people rank the Bears loss in terms of disappointment in the division?
I'd say the Packers getting blown out on a neutral field is the worst, the Lions getting down big and losing a home opener second, the Vikings losing as road favorites to a not particularly good Bengals team as third and the Bears fourth.
The Bengals didn't put up 40 at home in their opener against a Viking d that is no better than what the bears are throwing out there and probably worse, especially with Barr out
The Bengals are starting Viking castoffs at CB and the Vikings were horrible at that position last year
We all expected them to lose, but it's easily the best loss in the division. Taking a step back from Sunday, I'm actually encouraged by the offense. They made it to Rams territory 7 out of 8 drives.
for all the Bears OL sucks, they need to take a look at the running stat line from that Rams game
take out Montgomery's big run and he still average 4.5 per carry
Now, what do you think they will do to a far worse Bengal team?
For me it's the uncoordinated defense - it's going to negate whatever Nagy's "little offense that could" can put together. You already know the offense is impotent, three TDs due to long drives in one game might be their ceiling, excluding any lucky TDs they'll put up due to turnovers and whatnot. Plus you had a chance to measure up against a playoff team and you got blown out of the building. So as a measuring stick thing, it also stung.
Broadly, it sucked for what it suggests for the rest of the season. The defense looks to be bottom middle-tier and the offense is still going to be putrid, notwithstanding Montgomery's contributions.
The Bengals should be favored simply because they can put more points on the board than the Bears can. That rule has more or less stood firm in the years after the playoff loss to the Eagles. In that magical year, it didn't matter if your offense was better - the Bears D was the equalizer. We don't have that advantage anymore and the offense still sucks.
