Listened to Norm's 2011 WTF interview. He said the only thing he was afraid of was illness and dying. Might explain why he kept his cancer so private.

Carson is maybe the only one as good as Norm as explaining a joke afterward to get a laugh. Except Carson used to do it when the joke would fail in order to save it, and Norm could do it when the joke hit in order to make it even funnier.

I haven't wached any Norm clips this week..........I watched them last weekend having no idea anything was wrong with him. When I get bored surfing youtube for music I will put on Norm or Rodney clips. The clips I enjoyed the most last weekend was an appearance on Conan where Norm came out in character as Rodney telling totally clean wife jokes. There was some magic between him, Conan and Andy that made whatever the hell he said ridiculously funny.

where were these comedians' support when norm's 2018 tonight show appearance was cancelled because he supported roseanne (who basically gave him his start as a writer for her show), at the height of #MeToo hysteria. some "tonight show" intern-level assistant was "crying" because norm was going to be on the show, and instead of firing that snowflake, norm gets booted.

their sentiments are empty. real friends feed support at a person's lowest. that's the measure of a friend.

The less time Norm spent on the same stage as that circus monkey Fallon the better. There is nothing funny, genius or even talented about yelling "save by the bell" running around your desk like an on set chinese fire drill, singing some shitty ditty with your guitar, doing arm pit farts and wearing some dumb fucking costume.

I always kind of liked Norm, but if memory serves me correctly, some of those Weekend Update skits were painful. I remember him deadpaning jokes, being greeted by stony silence, and then just staring until people laughed, but that period was kind of a rough SNL period generally.

I'm glad that Norm is now a Jesus like figure, but where were these people when he had "The Sports Show" on Comedy Central or the Netflix talk show? What the H?

The "proud of my gay son" bit is pretty funny. He also did that on Dennis Miller. The other funny bit he did on Dennis Miller was the Viagra bit with Spade.

It wasn't so much a rough period as the early stages of a rebuild. Norm's first year was that 20th season where they lost a ton of people at once and had to grab Michael McKean to flesh out the cast. After that, Will Ferrell was there, but it wasn't really the Will Ferrell era quite yet, if that makes sense. I watched a lot of SNL in the mid-'90s, and Weekend Update was always great. I don't remember much else, but I remember Weekend Update, and I was so pissed when they put Colin Quinn in.

I know they were rebuilding, but that doesn't change the fact that it was bad. You had the Carvey, Hartman, Myers cast, then you had the Farley, Rock, Sandler cast, and the people who were left after that were just nowhere near as good. Luckily, they did improve with Ferrell, but that period in between was just bad. That's why I was saying you couldn't really hold it against Norm. I remember being disappointed in most of those episodes.

Here is the cast the season after Sandler got fired. There's a lot of talent but I think it took a while for them to gel.
