I need a co-host to be either knowledgeable about a major sport (basketball, football or baseball) or be funny. Not a high bar. Again, they know they have a problem with this show. Ronge may not be that far around the corner.

today on midday midway thy were discussing a goat killing a bear. Dan said it was unlikely for a goat to win but the "goat could use a well placed poke with a horn". Leila quickly said "couldn't we all"

So when she first became cohost, i was like ok this is alright. and i would listen pretty regularly. but it waned. and now I barely listen. After resigning from my old gig and waiting for the new one to start I was doing some basement remodel projects the past few weeks and would put the score on at times but i'm sorry, this show is just not interesting. I feel dan is getting older and is neutered due to his circumstances, and Leila is very vanilla. I just literally have no use for anything she is saying. I mean I don't really care for anything Dan is saying either. He's trying to be smart and I commend him trying to cut the meatball with math, probability and reason, but i'm just not that into it.

I agree with this assessment. When I rarely listen the show doesn't do anything for me. It's not offensive (Bernstein/Goff) or annoying (Bernstein/McKnight). It's just boring.

Isn’t a big part of the reason the shows are boring is because the hosts are scared to death therefore can only offer the most vanilla sanitized “proper” takes lest they be subject to the unemployment line ?

That and the focus of the station is on news and reporting with SJW thrown in...problem is, the hosts just aren't that interesting.

The shows are boring because the hosts have almost no lived experiences that are interesting. Everyone outside of the morning show is communications school to entry level media job to score host. They didn't have interesting jobs unrelated to sports. They didn't take meandering paths that put them in interesting situations with interesting characters. None even seemed to acquire vices that are fun for a little while before becoming destructive. No one talks about his weekend on a Monday because none of them did anything anyone would find interesting.

for me its a matter of you don't know what you got til its gone. I used to complain all the time about drinky/goff/boers/bernstein. but compared to what they have on that station today, that was must listen to radio.

I think it might just be a poor match. I think there are some who would be a good fit for Dan that have a more realistic shot (whenever it was Dan and Jhood I thought it was very good) and likely the same could be said for Leila. one of the afternoon guys is likely to be willing to step out more on a limb and push Leila to be more interesting. I'm almost 100% certain Dan did not want this.

He did that 25 years ago. The stories were largely limited to drinking at close to the hotel bars with the coaches. He was trying but it wasn't exactly riveting. I doubt that players looked at Bernstein as anything other than a team spy/snitch.

I've listened to this show pretty regularly over the past few months since they talk about the Bears a lot.

I don't think I've heard Leila utter an interesting or unique thought during that span. Most of the time she's not even coherent. And she frequently slurs her speech. Is she drunk? I wouldn't blame her given her partner, but she's evidently not one of those people who become increasingly entertaining as their consumption of alcohol increases.

Yesterday she was alleging she has seen people on twitter, the text line, and the twitch chat arguing in favor of pace keeping his job. I can't definitively say she is just making shit up but I haven't seen a single instance of this happening on twitch or twitter. Unless she is misconstruing people pointing out his late round draft success for saying he should be retained. But as many have said, she constantly regurgitates trending talking points and seems to lack any originality. Maybe she knows this and is grasping for something to add, i don't know. She does speak like she has a mouth full of cotton balls though.

I thought Swieca was excellent, especially on her long form, Sunday morning baseball show. I was a young father back then and would be up at the crack of dawn, even on weekends, so I'd hear most of her show. She was also great on the football roundup, talking about games going on while the Bears played. I liked her work, but I think she went nuts and she also blew coach clown shoes, which damages credibility, unless you work in Boston. There it gets you promoted.

I used to listen to it a lot either going out for breakfast or more likely driving an hour to play at some remote golf course outside the six county Chicagoland area. I remember a fantastic rant she had back when Konerko had a rough first three months one year, to the effect of Kenny Williams is an idiot for insisting that Konerko isn't hurt when everyone realizes he is... because it means that he is just bad then, and since Kenny was the one who signed him to that contract then Kenny is an idiot either way. I was pulling into a golf course as she got going and just sat and listened laughing until she finished.

She had taken over Sunday mornings from Bernstein, who had gotten his first weekday slot. Bernstein pre-marriage pre-internet solo was pretty good as well, especially on baseball.
