I don't see it as an anti-Lightfoot or city vs. suburbs thing but rather a 'there is a no worse location and venue than SF' thing.

Can't park, can't get home after games and you freeze your ass off in winter. What's not to like about the move?

Most people have absolutely no taste. If you tell them "cheap easy parking" they are fully in.

I still have hope this process drags out long enough that a new mayor gets in office who can agree with the Bears on another major renovation to Soldier Field. One that might even get landmark status back. Lightfoot seems to resigned to losing them. Next election is less than a year and a half away. I doubt the Bears break ground on a new stadium before then.

The thing I don't get is how many people are taking this new attitude that this is what's been holding the Bears back. The problem all along was a lakefront stadium in the city and not [gestures broadly] all of this? We all seem to agree that the McCaskeylings are these dead-eyed mutants who can't walk into a room without consulting an instruction manual, but now for some reason two-thirds of the fanbase thinks that those same mutants should spearhead a massive mixed-use real estate project and that nothing can possibly go wrong with that. Okay.

The dumbest and therefore likeliest possible outcome is that an Arlington Park stadium is just Soldier Field but more so: a monument of and to luxury suites that limits the general population more than any other stadium in the league. Watch it only be 64,000 seats instead of 61,000. But it'll have DOME!

Correction, we hate Lightfoot and Soldier Field itself that much.

Watching the carpet muncher take an L on this is just a bonus

I'm a big proponent of cities telling teams to fuck off so good for them I guess, but I can only imagine the concessions the same people who brought you the parking meter contract would have brought to the table to get the bears to stay.

Bears did that 20 years ago but did it the wrong way as it kept them within the confines of Soldier Field. There is nothing that can be done with that site to make a real NFL stadium so moving is the only option

The threat to move seemed to have struck a nerve with her over the summer.

The Bears leaving for the suburbs is just another domino falling as Chicago continues its downward spiral into shithole.

I've been told it's doing great. And if you disagree expect an invitation to fight by the Fisk bust in centerfield.

Pretty much sums it up for me.

You should worry about the businesses leaving the downtown core. Vacancy rates for commercial and retail space have to be alarming. Add in the fact WfH is becoming either permanent or hybrid, there is no reason left to live in what is becoming a dying city.

The Bears aren't the only thing leaving the city

For those that bought PSL’s in the current Soldier Field, those are now worthless. The Bears can make you buy new ones in Arlington Park Stadium.

Right, right right, we get it. Your shtick of bagging on cities from your office chair in Arkansas.

Nonetheless, your Lori Derangement Syndrome is not rooted in any reality of the situation. The relationship was bungled when Soldier Field was renovated. She's a bad mayor but there's nothing fiscally responsible for Lori to do here. Nor are the Bears wrong for wanting correct the terrible Soldier Field renovation.

All we can do now is wait and see how badly the Bears screw up this Arlington Heights project.

A 20% vacancy rate (and rising) in downtown offices tells the story. You can keep burying your head in the sand, but you'll realize the reality when the fiscal crisis hits after the city realizes the tax base that kept the house of cards afloat is gone. The city is on the path to becoming the next Detroit. It's possible to change course still, but denying reality is one way to double down and ensure the decline continues.

you continue to say this to somehow comfort yourself over your move to shithole arkansas. The truth is that city residential rents are stable, home prices have surged and the anticipated exodus was dramatically overstated.

I'm not going to participate in your ignorant ramblings from Arkansas. I will just leave with these comments.

Nearly every urban center is experiencing declines for now due to the shift to WFH. None of this is exclusive to Chicago and Lori's poor leadership. Your sad obsession with cheering for our nation's downtown centers to fail and decay is a really ugly mental disorder. I hope you seek treatment and wish you well on recovery. God bless

Show me on this doll where the suburbs hurt you.

The decline of Chicago predated Covid as the problems with the budget and fiscal future were already there. Covid just accelerated the inevitable and gave people like you something else to blame other than the people in charge. Enjoy your decline.

20% vacancy in office space has to be worrying to you as it has continued to grow even after things reopened. The exodus isn't over and I can imagine the issues that cropped up over the last 18 months.

Heck Chicago has gotten so bad that I'm going to say you might have the only city in the country where you actually need more police and need them to probably be more brutal. Yes, your city is so bad that me "Mr. anti-police" thinks you need more of them and need them to crack skulls.

You should visit this area where I live though, it isn't the shithole you imagine. Quite the opposite if you ask Crest who has been here a fair amount for business.

but reality is, there is no residential exodus, the amount of work from home, both desired by employees and allowed by employers was overstated and the pandemic has actually created some relief for the city to deal with its fiscal issues.

They are still building commercial space downtown, so someone with some knowledge is bullish on the long term

I'd be more likely to move back into the city to WFH than move back to farm country.

I loved living in the city. It was the game of GTA commute to get from the city to the workplace that stressed me out more than anything.

Probably the same people who built condo in 2007-2008.

Seriously though, the fiscal issues that are looming are not solved and the crime problems will push a new exodus.

There don't seem to be many downsides to this. At the very least it will be nice for the Bears to get away from the Chicago Park District and have a field to play on that isn't absolute shit.

the field isnt that bad anymore IMO. 4-5 years ago, yes it was rediciulous seeing a re-sodded field in december, but the last few years they've done a good job with the turf from my vantage point in the stands

Everyone hates on the renovation and deservedly so but there was not a bad seat in the house. Great site lines and close to the action. Everything else was bad but when I go to watch football, watching football is the principal concern
