It's something suburbanites can't understand. No one has Schaumburg or South Holland pride. That's why they tell everyone they are from Chicago.

Give it a couple years and the Arlington Heights pride will overwhelm you.

In the Army I used to tell people I was from Illinois. They usually said where? Hoffman Estates. Huh? Near Chicago.

I don’t think the reaction to telling people you’re from Chicago is as positive as some think nowadays.

Just because they spend money for expensive seats at Chicago sports stadiums doesn't change anything. MANY bought tickets to Cubs games for years and couldn't name 3 players on the team. It's entertainment for some. It's life for Chicagoans.

Like I said, it's anyone's right to go ahead and disown a team that moves to the suburbs....the Bears will be fine without them. I just think Reader's logic of disowning them for the ownership team being morons is a little more logical

This isn't exclusive to Chicago. This is common for many city/suburb relationships across the country.

Suburbs are dorks. It's ok to be a dork.

Real Chicagoans are very loyal to our city and Chicago sports teams. We have lived with inept management and coaching for all of our lives. It makes the championships a little sweeter. We live by a different code. We have a swagger that everyone wants. That's why suburbanites tell everyone that they're one of us.

Honestly question here. What about 2021 Chicago is worth feeling pride in?

All of it. It's not something that you would ever be able to understand with suburban blood flowing through your veins.

Whatever we say you wouldn't understand from your office chair in Arkansas. The city is not for everyone.

It's pretty clear I'm here for the teams only. It seems a good plurality of the people here understand the city is on a downward slope.

This city has gotten so bad that I'm reversing some of my opinions on police. Do you know how fucked up your situation has to be for that?

Is it the 800 homicides, the revolving door for felons, the daily expressway shootings, the boarded up storefronts on State Street and the Mag Mile? I'm curious. What is it that you feel pride in?

It's common for suburbanites to live their life in fear. It's part of the process of the lifestyle.

The beautiful chaos of the city is overwhelming for many people.

Keep licking Lori's taint. Maybe she'll repay the favor one day.

Chicago isn't past the point of no return (yet) but doubling down on Kim Foxx was a good sign things aren't turning around anytime soon.

I'm going to guess you're the type of moron who voted to re-elect her, right?

Yes, all the people who don't live in Chicago, and have never lived in Chicago, somehow know EVERYTHING about Chicago. Despite all of their lies, they still get on a plane, put their family in a car and catch the train to visit Chicago. Why? Everything is better in Chicago. The food tastes better. The alcohol tastes better. Even the women taste better.

When I visit, I'm visiting Northbrook/Glenview/Highland Park because all of my cousins left the city for the suburbs. Even the ones who swore they would always be city dwellers

For the record, I do not claim to know everything about it. I have no desire to live within the city limits of Chicago, but say the same for Milwaukee, NYC, Boston, San Francisco, Dallas, Austin, Denver, or any other city. I also don't have the contempt for Chicago, the Daleys, Rahm, Lightfoot and the others. In terms of cities...I think Chicago is great...I just have zero desire of city life here there or anywhere. I'm like suburb life. I fully understand why MANY like city life...it's just not for me.

There is nothing about Chicago to me that is better than MANY other cities have to offer, Chicagoans have an extreme arrogance about their city.

There are things that make Chicago great, and things that make Chicago terrible. There are certain aspects and areas in the city during the summer that are second to none in the US.

Saying you can't root for a Chicago team if you live in the suburbs, or that you will abandoned your so-called fandom should that team play its home games outside of Chicago city limits is beyond silly.

Using Nas's ridiculous logic, the Packers would have, at most, about 105K fans since that is the population of Green Bay.

Chicagoans should travel more and hear what the rest of the country thinks of their city. The city has a major image problem. I'm not saying it is late 20th century Detroit, but the perception people have of the city is in line with that.

Chicago can be fixed, but it appears its residents and officials prefer to bury their heads and pretend everything is good rather than address the issues.

It's pretty clear I'm here for the teams only. It seems a good plurality of the people here understand the city is on a downward slope.

This city has gotten so bad that I'm reversing some of my opinions on police. Do you know how fucked up your situation has to be for that?

It's common for suburbanites to live their life in fear. It's part of the process.

The above is what hateful suburbanites and out-of-town hayseeds can't grasp.

You can be proud of where you live and acknowledge it's superiority but not agree with current city leadership. You don't have to loudly declare obsessive hate and ignorance if you don't agree with leadership.

Your obsession is the definition of the overplayed but truthful Don Draper zinger. You feel bad about Chicago/cities however we don't think about you at all.

Funny you say that but hold such love for a contrived shithole like Nashville. Or any part of Tennessee.

Music City

Folks in Chicago don't focus on southern cities or states. Apparently even the locals don't want to talk about them. Chicago is so great that even the out of towners spend a significant amount of time gossiping about her. MANY can't even name the mayor in their own town, but they know who the mayor of Chicago is. That's what greatness looks like.
