I can't see the Sox beating a good team in a tight series, but Dusty might blow it for the Astros. Astros in 4.

Sox take this one, but it may take all 5 games.

My bold prediction is at least 1 Sox win is the result of Dusty mismanaging his pitching staff, which is a guarantee for him in October.

He absolutely will. No chance Dusty outmanages Tony. Guy is a clown who somehow keeps getting jobs despite multiple high level choke jobs resulting from how he manages his pitchers.

La Russa vs Dusty feels so 2003.

I didn't even consider this, but you are absolutely correct. If Dusty was managing the White Sox, he'd have Keuchel starting. God knows what he'd do with the bullpen, but he'd completely botch that based on matchup instead of putting in the best arm.

Quite frankly I’m surprised the Sox even made it this far playing for such a racist manager that the players don’t like and wouldn’t want to play for. Poor Rick Hahn.

The Dusty hate is weird now. He's taken 3 teams to the playoffs since he left Chicago. He's a good manager. TLR is a better manager.

MLB Network segment with Buck Showalter and Jon Heyman had the Sox as "coasting for months" and cant handle the Astros

He is a good manager. He's won absolutely everywhere he's been. However, if you developed a short list of managers you'd hire to win the World Series, he's not on it.

Agreed. He's good enough to get you there, but you know he'll lose at some point.

He is handed teams with loads of talent that do well in the regular season as over 162 games the team with the best talent will win out and the manager's mistakes aren't amplified.

However, when he gets to October, the importance of each game is amplified and managerial mistakes are the difference between winning and losing a series. Just ask the Cub fans here how that one works out. There is a reason he has never won it all as a manager while TLR has multiple championships.

The teams were bad before he arrived. He creates a winning culture and players love him. That's half the battle. He just can't get over the World Series hump. As I said, he's a good manager. He's just not elite. TLR has been elite.

You just count on Dusty starting a pitcher on too little rest, using a reviver too
Long or too often. Just happens.

When the Astros swept the Sox in four games earlier this season, there was no Eloy, no Robert, no Madrigal. Lamb was playing in the OF, and free falling Mercedes was hitting 4th/5th as the DH. Also, checking pitchers for sticky stuff hadn't started yet.

Astros are facing a different team, and a much better team than any Sox squad they saw during the 2021 regular season.

People around here must not have watched the Texas -St.Louis World Series. TLR and Ron Washington were having a contest to see who could manage games the worst.

Good and I hope this rule goes away permanently. Maybe if you want to do that in the 13th inning and onward during the regular season, fine.

  Mr. Baseball Buck Showalter. What the fuck has he ever won? In fact, a tried and true way of winning a World Series is firing his ass. Fuck him and his stupid dugout desk.

ALDS: Houston Astros vs. Chicago White Sox

Astros 24

(Barron, Baugh, Beaman, DeAngelis, Doolittle, Flemming, Glanville, Gonzalez, Hembekides, Karabell, Keown, Kurkjian, Marrone, McCarthy, McDaniel, Mullen, Olney, Orlins, Passan, Ravech, Rojas, Schoenfield, Ullrich, Vasgersian)

White Sox 12

(Bonzagni, Benetti, Cockcroft, Colli, DeMartino, Lee, Nitzberg, Peterson, Rogers, Stupienski, Ward, Yates)

The Astros are the popular pick here -- why do you think the White Sox can advance? The White Sox boast one of the most talented teams in baseball. With Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez out for large stretches, the team didn't have its full-strength lineup for much of this season. The White Sox present a formidable group of pitchers with Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito joined by surprising performers Carlos Rodon and Dylan Cease. And finally, the bullpen featuring Craig Kimbrel, Garrett Crochet and Michael Kopech is built for the postseason. -- Joon Lee

2-1 ratio of experts going for Houston.

2003 NLCS showed us everything we need to know about Dusty Baker managing over the next hump. He got embarrassed by Jack McKeon.

I will always hate Dusty Baker simply because he made us watch his kid during post-game press conferences. Yes, he's a point A to B successful manager, but he's always had talent to work with.

Let the experts say what they want. The games will be played one way or another.

I think this ALDS matchup is probably the toughest for either team. I think the ALCS opponent for either Sox or Astros will not be quite as difficult as this series.

Starting a lefty in Game 2?

Sox hit him pretty well in July with a lineup missing Eloy, Luis, and Grandal

I really think people are sleeping on the Sox. I saw a stat that showed injuries cost the Sox 20 WAR this year (by far the most in MLB)

This team would've won 100 if they were even semi-healthy.

 This team could have won 100 if they had a competent lineup and gave a shit during day/getaway games.
