I stopped at the Dekalb oasis several weeks ago and the freaking Starbucks is closed. The only thing open was McDonalds. If Starbucks can’t make it with their profit margins you’ve got a problem.

88's traffic is pretty light though so maybe they just aren't getting the business they need since the state jacked the tolls that road so high. Although usually it takes till after 39 for the traffic to really thin out. Half the time on 88 between 39 and Sterling/Rock Falls I feel like I'm driving on a private road.

Also, it was a terrible Starbucks. Well.. I mean, I don't like it in general but my two experiences there were really bad.

This implies that there are good Starbucks.

Hint; there are not.

Starbucks makes their money off of all the cream and sugar based crap they serve to the VW Beatles waiting in line. The pickup trucks are ACTUALLY in line at a local McDonalds whose coffee is far superior to Dunkin's crap. There are lines at most Dunkins and I'll never understand way...it's crap.

Believe it or not, Bob...I'm a heterosexual male who drives a pickup truck. I'm not interested in waiting in line or hanging out at a starbucks, but in terms of black coffee (which is what I drink)....I'd take Starbucks any day over Dunkin.

As far as coffee rankings go...nothing beats fresh gas station coffee, as long as its at a decent gas station, so it will depend on how much of a cheap ass the owner is.

For example, there is a Shell on Algonquin in Mt Prospect that serves Hills Bros coffee. Bad.

There are a Shell and a BP down 176 from each other...one at 45 (BP) in Mundelein, the other at Milwaukee (Libertyville). Same owner. Awesome coffee.

Speedway tends to have the most consistent coffee of all of them though.

When it comes to the traditional drive-thru type places, I'd go:

1: Dunkin
2: Wendy's
3: Starbucks
4: White Castle
5: McDonalds (it always seems weak and watery when I get it.)

What makes Starbucks irritating is how long you have to wait to get a large black coffee because there are too many super soy caramel macchete extra almond milk bullshit drinks going on.

It’s either awful or passable as a black coffee. I imagine if you dump caramel, toffee vanilla shots into it and cover it with whipped cream it would taste like all of that stuff.

I prefer Dunkin, Starbucks always tastes burnt.

I mostly use Starbucks pods in my Nespresso machine at home. 2-3 pods, a splash of vanilla extract, sprinkle a little cinnamon powder, a pack of Stevia and some foamed milk. Can't beat that.
