Double edged sword for Nagy here, if Fields fails and does not develop Nagy is obviously gone, but if Fields is beginning to show signs of development, but Nagy continues to flail around as one of the worst in game coaches in the NFL, he still likely get launched. Someone eventually has to answer for the offense consistently ranking in the bottom 10 of the NFL, and for the team sinking to the bottom of the NFL this season.

It is highly likely that the Pace and Nagy's ongoing inability to draft and coach offensive talent, and put together anything other than a barely competent NFL coaching staff, will lead to their demise sooner than later.

Their problem is not building a fucking line that can block

And it’s amazing how much more competent that O-line looks when they’re running an offense that matches the personnel on the field. Nagy’s inability and/or refusal to use the run game, insistence on running a read option style offense, and his absolute incompetence at understanding how to establish any sort of rhythm with his play calling have all contributed to every aspect of the on field product looking like dogshit.

So, yeah, I’d say a good amount of the Line issues are his fault too. Not all of it mind you, but a sizable amount.

When you use the run to set up the pass (and wear down the pass rush).. and you don’t ask your O-line to constantly (like 80% of your snaps) hold impossible blocks while a QB decides whether or not to hand the ball off, pull it and keep it so he can run, or pull up for a pass.. the blocking looks much better.

And just to be clear even if the Bears would have run Lazar’s offense against the Browns I think they still have a rough game.. but it looks much better and they don’t give up 9 damn sacks.

Nagys game plan for that game was completely idiotic and so comical that even the opposing defense called him out during interviews on it. I’ve never even heard of that in my 30+ years of watching football lol

See many of the talented college QB's that have been groomed in the "passing camp" era where youth football in some areas has devolved into a basketball type AAU, me first concept, struggle with pocket passing. These guys almost extensively practice in seven on seven groups with no tackling, no nasty 325 lb DT's trying to take their heads off, so when they get jacked a few times in an actual game they get jittery and flee the pocket quickly. Fields developed in this way making it necessary to implement an offense that allows him to get on the move essential for him to thrive, especially with the Bears lack of talent at C and rather pedestrian talent at OG where they tend to give up almost immediate pressure.

You are 100% on regarding youth football.

Hard to overestimate the positive effect of having Nagy not call plays has on this team. Lazor seems to understand the limitations of the offense much better than Nagy, getting away from the shotgun pocket passing game that has never worked with any QB under Nagy and going with more under center power runs.

Good to see Fields begin to recognize hot reads, the lack of offensive talent will continue to limit his development, but there are a few signs here and there of what he will eventually be as a QB. The lack of bootlegs and rollouts continues to be mystifying, must assume that Nagy's base offense is limited to shotgun pocket passing?

Nagy also did a good job riling up the team on the sidelines. He was in everyones face. Love it.

Nagy is taking inspiration from the strength coach meatstick that is pounding his chest and running up and down the sidelines like a caveman after any positive play. Go all in, rip off your shirt and run down to the endzone for the eddie jackson endzone turnover photo shoot.

He really is. Mt. Union, UW Whitewater and North Central have no idea what they are in for. UBU is winning the Gagliardi Trophy for sure this year.

hes a good person. sucks at play calling, i think that has been clear for awhile, but he does a lot of other things good. he hasn't made a many bonehead decisions in the moment like we used to see with lovie or tressman, and the players seem to like to play for him.

he also seems to bounce back from bad losses, not get worse, which is great to see.

He’s a likeable guy if you work for him (…seemingly, from the outside).

He doesn’t credit subordinates, doesn’t adjust, can’t pick personnel, can’t coach any aspect of the game…he’s not an actual leader. He’s a doormat.

There was an interesting conversation that had nothing to do with he bears but is kind of relevant to Nagy that I heard last week. I believe it came from a Rodgers interview where he was referring to his coach's by their first name and not calling them coach. It was more highlighting the differences between college and pro teams and even had some Urban Meyer stuff sprinkled in. At some point they got in to what pro coaches refer to each other as in interviews. They said that NFL HC's that refer to their staff as "coach XXXX" instead of by their first name feel insecure about their position of leadership and need to clearly separate themselves as being above the assistants by referring to them as "coach xxxx" and not by their first name. Nagy called everyone "coach xxxx" this week in his presser.

They like to talk about floors and ceilings with players, Nagy's ceiling is likely what we saw a few years ago, playoffs with a first round exit. We can talk about him being a good head coach, but there must be some accountability for the guy that hand picked the players, developed the scheme, and called the plays for the #32 offense in the league. It's been asked, "what offensive player has gotten better under Nagy", when you think about it that is the reason he will have limited success. A journeyman OC has been able identify and make changes that have made the offense at least competitive.

Not sure if he would still be the HC under any other ownership group other than the McKaskey's. An involved owner would have launched Pace and likely Nagy after last year.

Correct on this. Neither will ever have their current title with another NFL team.

General managers don't generally get rehired unless they were great somewhere else. Nagy is currently 9 games over .500 for his career, I don't doubt that he could talk his way into another job.

Think about how much better the Bears could be if we took away even more of Nagy's responsibilities.

Nagy consistently keeping the locker room together is a miracle. Simply based on his suckage as a play caller. It's difficult to keep a locker room together when things are going well. I don't think we should dismiss the value of a guy who is able to maintain order even when he is fucking things up.

Nagy is a guy who is better suited to oversee things. As much as he may love to call plays, he doesn't have a feel for the flow of the game that is necessary to be a successful play caller.

We need to tap the brakes a bit, becoming more obvious why the Raiders looked so disinterested on Sunday, if the team beats Green Bay we can start viewing Nagy a bit more optimistically. As of this morning the offense is still dead last in the league, especially putrid in the passing game where they are over 50 yards per game behind the 31st ranked Saints.

I think the book on Nagy is written regardless of what happens in GB. That you'd get high on him depending on what happens next week - ignoring the first five weeks - is a tad simplistic.

If they beat GB and get to 4-2 with Nagy continuing to let Lazor run the offense it would be a tad simplistic not to optimistic about him keeping his job for the remainder of the year.

Preaching to the choir here, certainly see no reason to keep him around given the spectacular failure of the offense early this year.

thats what i see too. he has the team, even after bad losses or even years. thats the most valuable part of that position. and he keeps the best players on the first team, even if the replaced dont agree or want to. you cant tell me dalton was happy what happened to him this year, but we dont see him bitching about it. so to say nagy has been a bad coach, i dont see it.

offense this year, yea bad start. getting better? absolutely. we have a chance to beat the packers, which is not usually the case.

The locker room takes care of itself. Mack, Hicks, ARob, Dollywood Eddie Jackson and probably Roquon all run that locker room. If things go south this year and its his fault I highly doubt they will keep their mouths shut about it again.

right. but if you watch the bears postgame, or listen to hamp and ob... of which are all former bear players... they are seeing nagy actually doing all the things they are asking for. trubinsky is gone. dalton isnt starting. nagy isnt play calling. nagy IS doing the rah rah shit on the side lines. theyre going to have a hard time pinning this on him if it goes wrong this year... if he continues what hes done so far.

Is there another team in the league that so consistently fucks up coming out of timeouts and long breaks?

That Kmet goal line shovel pass on the 1 as they were running it down GB throat was straight out of his wall of placards.
