I have a tendency to tune into bad radio at the right moments. I tuned into Rover Thursday morning, and Joe (now producer for Rover's show) was defending himself. Apparentely, the phone screener DJ Jazzy Jim (some 23 year old punk) can't stand Bartosch. From what it sounded like, the two were finally ready to blow up on each other, so Rover thought it would be fun have it happen on the air.

The phone screener was laying it on Bartosch pretty nicely, and while I think Joe defended himself as best as he could, I think it's obvious that he doesn't belong on this raunchy show. It sounds like Joe is a good producer, but that he doesn't fit in with the group, and it's easy for one to lay it onto him, and for the rest to kind of fit in. Rover mentioned that if Joe didn't work for the show, he would never listen to it.

The DJ Jazzy Jim character is a phony wanna-be in my opinion, and really has no right to pick on anybody. Who the hell is he anyways, he is just some phone screener, who uses a fake voice while on the air. I kind of feel bad for Joe.

Joe B has more talent in his Bartosh Bratwurst than Grover & BJ Jim have combined. www.supergroovy70s.com

I've heard Rover occasionally, and I've heard Bartosch get abuse periodically from all the on air characters. Being the "abuse taker" might be sort of a "role" for Joe (but not that it's condoned).

I wonder what Drew Hayes' history with Joe might have to do with any of this? (Since they've worked together in more than one setting.)

Oh boy, it sounds like a great show. DJ Jazzy Jim? Nothing screams great radio like a guy who swipes his moniker from the guy who WASN'T Will Smith, and faded into the ether 15 years ago (and that's being generous). This Rover guy sounds like a joke, and the whole "morning zoo" thing is beyond over. He might have been great in Cleveland, but I don't think they expect much there. Chicago's very provincial, and the radio hallways are littered with the bodies of out-of-towners who were going to be the "next big thing". Most fail and very few succeed. The three that have succeeded (Dahl, Brandmeier, and Kev) did so 20 years ago, AND had immense talent. I feel sorry for Bartosch, I always liked him. I hope he's at least making some decent coin through all the bullshit.

They mentioned during the argument that Bartosh is "in" with Drew. Joe sounded pretty confident that he could get DJ Jazzy Jim fired by talking to the right person. The Jim guy then said he would always listen to Rover, Dieter, Dujji, but never Bartosch. He then continued to make fun of his "old" age and at one point, even his kids.

It was uncomfortable to hear.

The funniest thing that Rover has done so far was to intially wear a Cubs hat in all his promo photos to engraciate himself with Chicago.

I guess he doesn't realize that a Cubs hat means one thing: LOSER!

I'd love for Joe to pull the trigger on that. Jim is just ANNOYING when he talks. I was a big fan of Joes show on WGN.

No way! Glad I didn't hear that! No matter what's going on there, talking about someone's kids is definitely off limits. It is not "entertainment"! :x

That DJ Jazzy Jim sounds like a real jerk. I feel for JB.

The guy is only 23 years old too... that's what makes it even more so wrong.

Another board has Bartosch at WSCR & WBBM & WCKG all under Screw Drew / So Hayes has made him a 3-time loser.

I find it interesting that so many of you have tuned in to the show for any significant period of time. I have had no interest in CKG in the mornings since Stern left.

I caught a bit of Rover this Friday. It sounds like this DJ Jazzy Jim guy got into it with Mark Grote, too. Jerk. I can't stand to listen to the guy, he sounds almost like nails on a chalkboard.
