we've watched the first 2 seasons. there are times it's really funny and entertaining. but it also has an undercurrent of murky moral ambiguity mixed with preachy "feminism" that doesn't work. i really like applegate and cardellini in it, though, they have great chemistry.

Watching both and enjoying them both. My hands shaking watching them play the "games"

Nice, glad to hear someone else is watching these shows. I think I'm 5 episodes into Squid Game and loving it.

The Guilty just popped up on netflix.
Very good fast-paced 90 minutes of what's essentially a one man show.
Positively worth a view. I don't think you'll regret it.

these kind of "reviews" are exactly why criticism is dead (and has been for a while):

https://www.npr.org/2021/10/05/1043435919/dave-chappelle-new-netflix-special-the-closer-review

carlin would be going through the same thing were he still alive. i remember years ago when "the daily show" started to be cited as "the only news i'll watch" by the now-so-called "progressive" left (alt-left)...taking satire to the point of serious, is exactly why this country has lost its sense of humor.

most of what this hack criticizes chappelle for is the kind of schtick he has been doing for over 20 years. and only now is it "problematic". that's because he's microanalyzing every line as if chappelle is preaching, and indoctrinating--rather than being humorous.

i can only imagine what carlin would be getting from this front with lines like "ever notice how lesbians are women you'd never want to fuck anyway?"...i mean, canceled. sure. but they'd probably try to dig into his past and find any kind of dirt they could to dance on his grave (no pun intended) while at it.

i think it was established years ago that chappelle was "too big to cancel" but once you start down the anti-alphabet gang, you're never too big. i don't know, though, how relevant netflix is at this point that chappelle would draw so much ire as to be "canceled".

i'll definitely be watching this, regardless.

any time a comic is criticized for going to far, he is doing his job well and should go even farther the next time

Both seasons were good, but it's getting repetitive and the way season 2 ended makes me think season 3 is not going to be any different.

People frequently go down on Linda Cardellini.

Haha, totally forgot about that. Is he in jail? Whatever happened with his rape charge? Damn, shame. That show premiered when I was 19, perfect age for it. Still holds up imo

We are 4-5 episodes in on Squid Game. Definitely been twisty, turning, and a good watch overall. The first episode I found both incredibly ridiculous and fascinating. Glad I stuck with it.

I enjoy the soundtrack, and the different setting in Korea as well.

my daughter and I are watching Squid Game. After a couple episodes we turned off the horrible over-the-top English dubbing went went straight subtitles without the dubbing. The dubbing was so bad it added a comic element to the show, and after we turned it off the show seemed less ridiculous (still very ridiculous).

Midnight Mass was great imho. I related to a lot of it. The one lead is from Evanston and was a huge Bulls fan growing up (still) and he got a Pippen tattoo when he was a kid after MJ retired the first time. Just a funny aside. Some of the scenes were so well acted too notch. Especially the one in the trailer omg.

That was my #1 complaint about it. There were other things about Squid Game I didn't like so I don't know if it would change my opinion that it was simply above average and it's already way overhyped.

I really enjoyed Midnight Mass, episode 6 (the Easter vigil episode) was disturbing to say the least.

Anyone who watched this or any foreign show with dubbed English instead of subtitles is a total douchebag. You illiterate or something?

It's not my fault that Netflix did a poor job in translation.

I could overlook it without the other pretty major flaws in the story.

it has nothing to do with translation. when you choose to go dubbed you lose out on the original actors acting. Instead you get second rate scale dub actors who aren't nearly as talented as the originals and who don't fully understand the exact tone and delivery of the lines they are saying.

I am referring to how bad much of the dialogue they were saying was. The voice acting wasn't great but even when you read the quotes on paper they still have some terrible dialogue.

It's still not my problem that the voice acting was poor.

its not even the translation that distracted us, its the cartoon-like voices they used, and for a couple episodes we kept it on for laughs because it was so silly. After turning them off, yes the acting seemed more genuine.

I'm sure it would be improved without the bad voice acting, but the underlying translation also wasn't very good.
