We are deep into the generation of the "every participant gets a trophy" generation.

A lot of kids never have to learn how to deal with things not turning out well or how they expected it to turn out.

And I am well into the "I sound like my parents" generation.

That's my amateur psychological analysis.

Are you me or am I you?

Precisely my point. You see how ridiculous that sounds.

Carlin, Pryor, and others have said far worse things. Why is there no backlash against them? Just because they said these things a long time ago? If that's the case, why are some dolts trying to cancel Jefferson and Washington because they owned slaves?

It appears that the common sense thing for Netflix, Youtube, etc to say would be, "If you're offended, turn it off," but then again common sense went out the window a long time ago now didn't it.

i don't think of the comparison to carlin and pryor or even bill hicks to be appropriate as much as i think the comparison to lenny bruce is. bruce was reprimanded, arrested, tried to be canceled, multiple times. he challenged his audience. that's what chappelle is doing.

he isn't discriminating or "punching down" if the result of his special of it being in danger of being removed. the special is what is vulnerable here, not the audience.

Problem is that the nitwits protesting generally aren't. And that has inspired a backlash from the constantly aggrieved brain dead morons who get spurred on by nobodies on Twitter.

Not really. He comes as a guy who is very sensitive. It also appears as if he's ran out of material or he's being extremely lazy because he already cashed the Netflix check. He is just shooting exclusively for shock value now. That's fine with me, but at least make it funny. He's saying "controversial" things about the LGBTQ community, but using his dead friend as cover from criticism. "It's okay for me to say this because I befriended one of you." He uses his wife as cover for his Asian comments as well. It comes off as cowardly. Unlike The Chappelle Show where the shock and the humor were
both there and it was clear he gave zero fucks about offending anyone. Now it's clear he does care.

That's a bad take imo.

Obviously yes he was trying to offend all sorts of groups with the special. The intention was to show that only the LBGTQ jokes would get criticized out of all his jokes and that's exactly what happened. As Zack has mentioned, I think he's genuinely out there just trying to have a conversation and understand why certain groups are off limits. I don't think it's lazy at all.

I don't think it was his funniest special but it definitely had several really funny parts

The Beyond Pussy and a few other parts were definitely funny. He's used his past 3 specials to go after that community and dedicated about 40 minutes of this special to continue his rant. This wasn't about trying to have a conversation. He was trying to offend without being funny. To also use the power of the majority to get away with it too.

Keep in mind, Chappelle is the same man who walked away from $50M because he felt like the executives at Comedy Central were laughing at him. He's also the same guy who recently used his relationship with Netflix and the power of his fans to extort Comedy Central because he signed a bad deal when he wasn't very famous.

You are both right and wrong. The special was easy. But he also constructed it into a very well done sermon. Great sermon, actually. It was entirely built on the myth of punching down. He turned it on it's head.

I would like to point out that we need a Hall of Fame section, and the fact that these 2 could have this interaction and be correct should be a start.

I finally started watching the Netflex Chapelle specials...trying to do it in order, so I'm holding off on the closer.

Constructing the set into a well done sermon.....that's interesting. I though that Equanimity was very well planned out front to back, which I hadn't seen him do before.

I watched that one again yesterday. I think that is his best one of the Netflix specials.

I've watched it a few times.

Yeah, I need to re-watch the earlier ones (as well as The Chappelle Show). From what I remember, Sticks and Stones was my favorite.

Now it’s come full-circle in the media game, where right-wing media outlets praise Chappelle and left-wing outlets continue to admonish him, especially after the New Orleans show with Joe Rogan.

I still marvel at the fact that no one points the finger at the media for creating these villains. Speaking of “accountability culture”, the media always comes away like Teflon.

Considering the media are the ones shaping the narrative, it's really not that shocking...mostly due to the fact that MANY are complete boobs who believe everything the media wants them to.

I fired up Netflix and the first banner that auto-plays at the top was for Chappelle Show doing the Race Draft.
