About an hour away. Maybe 1:15. I’ll keep it in mind as I’m through there once a month or so. The one I saw was at Blaum over in Galena. They hasn’t tapped an actual home produced bourbon when I was there.

Blaum is rolling out some really good products. The neat thing with Whiskey Acres is they make whiskey from the corn they grow. My whiskey club did a barrel of blue popcorn and will have bloody butcher soon.

My parents' first neighbors were Stitzels, (1962-1968) relatives to the Stitzel-Weller Distillery folks. He gave my Dad tons of Old Fitzgerald swag: tie clips, pocket knives, ash trays, tumblers, etc. When I was at mom's to winterize, she was going through Dad's dresser drawers. There is a small box with two Old Fitzgerald key lapel pins, and a business card rom the President of the Distillery, I think it was Jonathon P VanWinkle. Kinda cool.

I love old bar and brewery memorabilia.

I'm representing an old guy right now who used to own a bar. He has an old manufacturing building he is converting to a home with. The ground floor is his work space and storage. He took me down there and had the most amazing collection of steins, serving trays, signs, etc. I was just about ready to tell him I'd take payment in his collection.

For years and years my dad had a stein in his office that I assumed he had picked up in Germany when he was stationed there. Apparently it was from a pre prohibition brewery/bar in the Quad Cities that his great uncle owned. One of the few things of sentimental value (Although pretty remote) from his family that he keeps around.

I'm partial to the local, so when I drink bourbon, I drink Journeyman's.

When you get downtown, swing by Mordecai, in the hotel across the street from Wrigley. My wife's cousin works there and can discuss the intricacies of bourbon for hours. He even has some kind of bourbon Zoom meeting, where he sends samples to you and your friends then you get together online to discuss.

Wife and I decided to make some Old Fashions last weekend so she picked out a nice bottle of Woodford Reserve and I thought it was pretty good overall. As for the Old Fashioned, I could take it or leave it. Most places up here in WI make it with Brandy which I kind of prefer in an Old Fashioned. She doesn't care for Brandy so we went the Bourbon route.

100% correct....but that doesn't make it better. :lol:
Obviously tastes vary....I prefer Rye. Packer fans can have their overly sweet brandy old fashioned. They're probably too cheap to buy Luxardo cherries, as well. :lol:

I can't imagine an alcohol that would go with Mountain Dew.. Kind of like the people I saw drink grape soda with vodka.Damn bubbly cough syrup.

I don't mind the Brandy old fashioned at all. The fact that they are on tap at Brewers games was a bit odd though.

The first time I was handed one I was all what's in this? My friend said Mt dew isn't it great? I froze my smile was all yeah it's great never had it like this before but in my head I was dying. Why are we ruining good bourbon?

I can drink cheaper rum, tequila, and wine. I cannot drink cheap bourbon or vodka (unless it's flavored vodka but I don't drink that often).

It’s really not the same drink though. Besides the whiskey/brandy factor, an old fashioned anywhere outside of Wisconsin does not include seltzer (unsweet) or 7-up (sweet).

my wife really digs old fashioneds. she bought a bottle of jefferson reserve and went with a "gambler" version that is a bit sweeter. i can only do one of those.

My wife doesn't dig Rye and said Brandy was too sweet. We didn't put any Mountain Dew or anything like that in it. Just a healthy splash of club soda. It was just ok with me. I drink beer 95% of the time but it was fun to do more of a casual drink and try to enjoy it more slowly.

I get that Rye isn't for everyone. My wife needs extra water in hers to deal with the Rye :lol:

The beauty of Old-Fashioneds is that there's so many different ways to make it....kind of like a pot of chili. They all taste different and everyone likes their way best.

I'm trolling a bit on the Wisconsin Folks...nothing wrong with using Brandy...I just have settled on my mix using Rye. If you haven't spent time experimenting with making Old-Fashioneds....I highly recommend it. Lots of fun.
