The Ballpark is a Baseball Shrine. I love it. I have more fond memories of days spent there than I can easily recall. It has history, the likes of which only Yankee Stadium (soon to be leveled) and Fenway Park, can rival. However, it also has falling concrete. They had to install netting to protect fans from injury from it. The bathrooms are gross. The concourses are too narrow. The Clubhouses are tiny. It will be several years before the old park is rebuilt. Until then, I will enjoy the wonderful park, knowing that I will likely see its end one day. But just as Miller Park is a far better ballpark than the old Milwaukee county stadium was and just as U.S. Cellular is a nicer park than old Comisky, the new Park they build, will likely be an upgrade. For fans as well as players, its likely to be more comfortable, cleaner and free of troughs. But it will not be a park where Babe Ruth called his Home Run Shot and a place where so many other greats from the past had played. But once people have the chance to enjoy all the modern amenities, the creature comforts that go along with a modern facility, I suspect they will embrace the new park. There will be a lot of hand wringing when the time comes, but if they rebuild it right, it will be well received by the fans.

Fenway Park-my bad. It was nearly 1:00am when I posted that and got it mixed up. Fenway, also has a rich history, and is a park which thankfully will be around for years to come. But I have heard people describe it as a real shithole. Thats a park I have not been to yet. Anyone been there? What was your impression?

There's a lot of people that share that opinion when it comes to Wrigley.


My favorite ballpark with a rich history is Petco Park, but Coors Field is a close 2nd.

Listen, those things I listed are what I dont like, not looking for anyone to agree with me, but the fact is that wrigley is a outdated stadium, I dont hate wrigley as much as I hate the logistics of it and the facilities. All I am saying is that I have been to the cell, miller park and the new busch stadium this year, wrigley doesnt even come close to any of those stadiums when it comes to being fan friendly.

The Yankee Stadium that you currently see has essentially been in existence only since 1975, when two (2) year renovations were completed within the existing structure. I have never understood why this has not been done with Wrigley Field. Wrigley could be entirely updated, on its existing site, and not lose any of its historic appeal.

I don't think renovating is a long-term option. They only have a city block to work with and there are zoning and height restrictions. Remember how difficult it was for them to add 5 extra rows in the damn bleachers? I think they are going to stay there until it literally starts falling down. A move to Skokie is inevitable.

Well, as long as it's in that location, there's not going to be parking; such is life in the big city. What you really seem to long for, in my mind, is a sterilized ballpark is some backwash suburb with a monstrosity of a parking lot to accommodate even the most behemoth of SUVs.

If they refurb wrigley fine, if the parking sucks, there is nothing I can do about it, all I am saying is the park is outdated and for me, not a great time. By the way, I dont drive a suv, its pick up

I think everyone forgot they rebuilt, not rehabbed, the Bleachers in an offseason. That is very impressive when one considers the seasonal issues of working through Jan, feb, etc. They did bust ass that last 2 weeks, 24/7 to get it done.

Yes, they would need a season at Illinois Tax Payer Park and I am sure Jerry would need to be compensated for that, because he has a lease and would never change that lease, unless of course the change benefits him, like a Cell Phone company wants to sponsor the park and it is not part of the lease that he gets the money, then he can change the lease, but otherwise, NO WAY!

I think in about 18 months they could get it done and then during the season they play there, finish the exterior building they would build next to it.

And don't worry about the zoning and neighborhood shit

I think the Cubs should move to that big empty space off the Eisenhower between Itasca and Elk Grove Village so that fans in the suburbs can reach the game easily while enjoying modern amenities like churros and jumbotrons that tell fans when to make some noise. I also soil my pants in public and read at a 1st grade level.
