He isn't as great as Shakes makes him out to be though. He isn't one of them dudes. Better than I thought. Not elite by any stretch.

Depends what you consider elite. If it's top 15 player in the league i got some bad news for you.

Top 15 in the league   I know you will find a few preseason rags to support this but it's obvious he isn't.

Very obvious at this point in fact.

Blown out last night without Donovan Mitchell. Another tough shooting night for Ice Cold Trae. Still early but it ain't looking good for your Atlanta Hawks. This is playing out just as I expected. Bagels you there?

anyone wanting to know why the Hawks have struggled out of the gate, here are the main reasons....

-hardest schedule in the NBA so far. 4 home games, 8 road games, less rest than any team in the league so far, no cupcakes played so far except New Orleans.

-Clint Capela has been awful. Apparently still recovering from achilles injury. here is your crazy stat for the day. This season the Hawks are 16 points better per 100 possessions defensively when Capela is on the bench. Last year they were 8 points worse in those scenarios. That's a 24 point swing per 100 possessions for the so called defensive anchor on the team.

-too many mouths to feed, too many guys looking for shots. Bogi, Hunter, Reddish...these guys shoot every time they touch the ball. Meanwhile, Collins has been amazing this season yet is getting less shots per game than last year. Team needs to go to Trae and Collins exclusively and the other guys should find their offense with whatever is left.

The Hawks have slightly more than a few problems.

1. They aren't really all that good. Definitely not as good as an Eastern Conf Final showing from last season would designate.

2. And even more importantly, the East is better from top to bottom than last season. The East is a better Conf than the West. Probably the first time in 23 years that I can say this. Very few gimme games on the schedule. Told Vegan this would happen a few years ago.

3. It's tough trying to win with young players because young players are concerned more about maximizing their earnings than they are with winning. Thus they tend to cry about playing time and stat chase all of the time, as opposed to make plays and sacrifice in order to win

4. The Hawks have a logjam at the 2-3 spots. 4 players, (5 if you count Solomon Hill) for 2 positions. All of them young and trying to establish themselves in the league. Got to make a move or 2 there.

5. And I have talked about this before. You are never going to win with high volume, low efficiency scorer, weak defender as your best player. Trae Young shoots in the low 40's for his career and yet he takes the most shots on the team each and every game. When he is clicking it looks good and Shakes his here screaming from the rooftops regarding the greatness of Trae. However too often it isn't, and when it isn't they are more likely to go down.
Couple that with his non existent defense and there is no way they will win anything of note.

after a slow start Trae has been on fire last 4 games or so. Team finally got a win, beating the crap out of Milwaukee last night. Trae went for 42 pts on great shooting, 10 apples and 8 boards. Had 6 3's in tghe first quarter.

Schedule lightens up now so hopefully they can get back to .500.

Bad news though, DeAndre Hunter is hurt again. Out 2 months with wrist ligaments.

Today's 40 point game is worth about 25-30 points in the Jordan/O'Neal era.

maybe true last year and the previous 5 years, but not this year. This year's NBA has brought back hand checking along with several other clear fouls that are no longer being called. Scoring 40 now with out the benefit of going to the line several times and while being grabbed, shoved and held all along the perimter is quite a feat.

3 in a row now that the schedule has let up. Still work to do at 7-9, but it sure beats 4-9.

Interesting game vs Celtics last night. Haven't seen a team put all it's focus on stopping Trae like that in a couple years. It worked in a sense that they did a good job keeping Trae out of the paint and held him to less than 20 points, but it didn't work in the sense that the Hawks are loaded with talented players and leaving them all wide open to focus only on stopping Trae led to a 15 point easy blowout win for the Hawks. Trae was more than content to just pass the ball out of the half court double team to any one of our wide open shooters. Reddish, Huerter, Collins, Gallo, Capela...all feasted thanks to Boston's game plan.

0-6 from 3. They are won in spite of him. And Boston is terrible this year.

Shakes you are a bit of a frontrunner when it comes to "your Atlanta Hawks. You don't have nowhere the confidence in them that you portray on here. You were quiet when they lost 6 in a row. Bagels is a known frontrunner (As evidence of his bandwagon G.S. move) Never would have took you for one too.
