They had Jay Cutler interview Lovie Smith's replacement candidates. Those are cold hard facts.

Sounds like you have never sat it on an interview before. There’s a pretty strong difference between sitting in on one and conducting one yourself

Nagy is not dumb enough to not have Fields strongly in his corner. He's the guy who identified Fields and encouraged Pace to trade up for him.

Fields by all accounts is a very bright kid. I sincerely doubt he would advocate for Nagy just because Nagy is nice to him.

Whats the source for your second sentence?

The only reason cutler would have picked tressman is because he thought he could walk all over him

Not sure why you bother with him..

..anyway my guess with Fields/Nagy is that Justin has worked at a high level in football with a good team and coaching staff (at Ohio State) and knows exactly what he’s looking at with Nagy.

Lot of negatives to unwind. The upshot seems to be the yinzer has successfully groomed his young QB to go to bat and save his job?

Nagy knows how to charm the people he needs to charm. Nagy has most of the team strongly in his corner, I doubt intelligence would make Fields feel differently. Also, I'm sure Fields has a strong relationship with his college coach and Nagy also has a great relationship with Ryan Day. There aren't any people who has Fields ear who would bad mouth Nagy. Besides, Fields is too young to recognize what a great NFL coach looks like.

The media was reporting all summer that Fields was Nagy's pick.

Exactly. And it seems obvious at certain times. Fields knows nagy is a moron. Hes just waiting. He knows hes playing when he probably shouldnt be, and as long as they get a real coach in a year or two all will be well.

Yet another thing he did not take from Andy Reid who’s got a great record after the bye.. Nagy spent all that time with him and learned almost nothing

That's why this was so infuriating. The other QB had almost zero experience.

That's what makes the 25-yard pass interference penalty so frustrating as well

It's amazing how the media and fans turned on Nagy in 2 months. They were still blowing him this summer because he identified Fields and he was going to get to develop someone who didn't suck like (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. By Week 2 they started calling for his job.

Nagy didn’t identify Fields, Fields wasn’t even supposed to be available in the draft to the Bears. Fields then slid on draft day and Pace went up and got him. I’m sure Nagy liked Trevor Lawrence and a few others too.. but actually ever being in position to acquire them is a different thing.

Also, most fans wanted Nagy fired during the season last year. So fans ‘turning’ on Nagy now seems like a really odd take from you when people mentioned constantly during the off-season he was a lame duck coach and so on.

This isn’t new.

Problem with the Fields pick is that they gave up what's going to end up being a top 10 2022 first rounder (top 5 currently) in addition to the first round pick to select him at 12. Who was taking Fields btw 12 and 20? Maybe the Redskins? Football Team still getting the bad taste of another OSU record setting college QB out of their mouth at the time of the draft; unlikely to take another drink out of that well so soon after Haskins flame out. And even if you wait until after Belichik takes Jones at 15 and it looks like WFT is going for Fields (and it's not just a head-fake to try to get the Bears to burn draft capital unnecessarily), you could get 16,17 or 18 to swap down to 20 for less than a 2022 first rounder.

By MANY media accounts Fields was the guy that Nagy wanted and that Pace then negotiated with several teams to move up in the event that Fields dropped.

Most fans didn't want Nagy gone. MANY believed that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was solely the problem. This was definitely the narrative from the media.

It's worth the price if he's great. It's not worth the price if he's Tony Romo.

He's looking more like Josh Rosen.
