I can't believe I'm typing this but if they are blind I bet they could kick ass at pinball too.

I watched a blind baseball team take weekly batting practice over a couple of winters. It was a great testament to what motivated kids can do. And the dedication of their parents and coaches.

I can't even imagine blind batting practice.. Although I have seen plenty of Shawon Dunston and Javy Baez at bats over the years.

It was 12" softball (My mistake ) but it was damned effective. I had to stop myself from trying to help out after it was explained how the coaches worked it out.

I tried to get on their mailing list to support them but I never got a response.

So, did they have like a spotter? Saying high, low, lay off? That kind of thing?

We used to caddie for the blind vets every year. Just three holes. They could golf a little. You'd have to help set them up, but they could hit it. One guy hit the 16th green at Beverly from about 140 yards away, which was amazing. (He was a golfer before Korea.) He said he could feel it in his hands that it was perfect.

But most of the rest of them never played while being able to see, and they hit it better than I can now. When putting, we'd bang the bottom of the pin against the metal of the hole so they could hear it.

Obviously, the ball in golf isn't moving, but it was still pretty amazing.

I think I'll write another post on the joys of successful heterosexuality.

It's amazing what we can do with adapted sports. My current favorite is sit volleyball.

They had a little 7 or 8 minute story on this during Sports Center this morning. A nice feel good story overall. They made it to the state championship game. Fell behind 28-0, then cut it back to
28-22 before getting just destroyed 74-22.
