I like that as well, it was a nice celebration, but I think they all realize there is more work to be done and they cannot be satisfied with winning the division!

Nice win. Lilly did give up the 4 runs including the 3 run homer. But he pitched pretty well and did a nice job on the squeeze bunt. Wood did a nice job in the 9th, with a real nice play by DeRosa, to get the lead runner at 2nd after the leadoff man walked. Otherwise they have a runner in scoring position with 2 shots at getting him in. It was beautiful to see Edmonds catch the fly ball for the final out, against the Cardinals. All that was missing, was the camera shot of LaRussa doing a burn. Tomorrow is gonna be interesting. The starters will probably all sit. I would hate to have gotten tickets to tomorrows game. It's likely to be a dud. But It was great to have the clinching take place by virtue of a Cubs win, rather than a Brewers loss. Now, we just have to wait and see who they get in the playoffs.

Sucks for whoever is at the game today. One of the worst lineups ever.

Belushi is in the booth. Why is he running the playoff rally? It should be Len.

First, they should not hold any damn rallys unless the Cubs win the World Series. If they are going to do it, then why have BoBo Belushi involved? Why don't they just dig up John, and prop up his casket on stage!

Maybe they got BoBo so he can do his End of Days dance.

Nice to see some of the young guys get into a game and do well. It was even better, to see Fukadome get a couple hits and not look overmatched. Another series win too!! :D It's going to be interesting how they play out the Mets and Brewers series, to finish the season. I imagine they will shorten up the starters, to ensure they are as strong as possible to start the playoffs. But as long as the Brewers stay in mathamatical contention for the Wild Card, I would think that Lou will play most of the starters. It's nice to be able to realx and not stress over the last week of the season though. Of course, about a week from tomorrow it all starts again, with even greater intensity. So lets enjoy the stress-free days, while they last.....

it was nice to see them win when they didn't really need to, and play pretty well.

they'll have to manufacture urgency the next few weeks but i'd like to see them come into october strong.

In the next few weeks??? The playoffs start a week from Tuesday. Thats 9 days from now. Their last game before the playoffs will be a week from today, as the make-up game with Houston is likely to go unplayed, as they will have been eliminated. That means they only have to "manufacture" urgency for 6 more games. Plus, I am sure that the Mets and perhaps even the Brewers, will bring the sense of urgency to the games that remain. For the kids that played today, the urgency is real. They need to show what they can do, not only so the Cubs management gets a positive look at them for next season, but also to show other teams what they can do at this level. Guys like Hoffpauir that cannot break into the lineup here, likely want to showcase their talent to teams that could use a guy who can play 1st base, right field and left field, hit 25 homers and drive in 100 runs, in under 300 at bats (71 games) at AAA. For these guys, the handful of games that remain are very important.
