Bears definitely dodged that bullet. Even Fangio now recognizes that Kyle Fuller is done.

It is pretty amazing how fast Fuller fell off a cliff.

That does not make Vildor good tho.

Nas, You do realize Vildor is now benched too right? Lost his job to a guy named Marty Burns.

Completely accurate. You would be questioning why the Bears were paying Fuller $15M to suck instead of giving Vildor a shot.

Moving on from Fuller was the right move. Believing that Vildor would continue to build on the moderate success that he had at the end of last season was clearly wrong.

Vidor didn't come with a $15M cap hit or a contract extension that Fuller would have gotten. Burns is a former 1st round pick of the 2nd greatest organization in NFL history. It doesn't hurt to kick the tires.

Yeah it is okay to say the Bears (Pace) made the right move on Fuller even if you want Pace gone. I thought it was a lot of money for Fuller. Crazy he became that bad so fast.

Do you think a player realistically goes from All Pro to shit in 9 months(unless there is a major injury), I'm fairly sure that Fuller would be better than any other option on the Bears opposite Johnson. They could have cut Jimmy Graham to keep Fuller.

The slippage was showing last year. We were just afraid of bumping an often injured Jaylon Johnson up to the #1 corner and we didn't know if Vildor or anyone else would be able to step in and be a solid #2 corner. Those were all valid concerns. That's why MANY thought it made sense to swallow the $15M pill on Fuller or extend him to get some cap relief and shore up our fragile secondary.

Edit: The Bears should have cut both. I think $7M is too much to pay for a "good" locker room guy.

butterfly effect but I think both Fuller AND Vildor would be playing better if Fuller were still a Bear

Vildor would be playing the nickel role which he seemed decent at. Fuller would be in familiar settings and teams would have started the year testing Johnson over him. Both are generally good tacklers. This would have built up Vildor as a player to prepare him for an eventual move outside.

Now, both guys are shot.

There were some decent name CB out there on the cheap who would have been marginally better. Bashaud Breeland seems to perpetually be on one year deals. Josh Norman and Sherman were others. They would have been shopping in the dollar section so they weren't getting anyone very good.
