It's appearing as if Riley decided to bail as soon as the SEC move was announced. This explains why the team was completely unprepared for Baylor (the biggest game of the season at the time) despite having a bye week before the game. It is confirmed that Riley was in LA during that bye week. This effectively means Riley intentionally sabotaged the season while planning to leave and focused his recruiting efforts entirely on Southern California while doing so. Riley has lied straight to the faces of every single person that has asked him about his timeline.

The most likely one is Baylor but that would only move ND to #5. Georgia making Alabama look bad may take them to 4.

ND was mildly screwed in the most recent rankings. I think they’ll need a combination of a few things to happen to crack the top 4: Cincinnati winning big, Georgia winning big, Michigan losing, OK State losing a somewhat close game (or Baylor may jump them)…

It's funny how everyone was complaining about how Cincinnati was getting screwed and how unfair the system is up until the point that it was clear that Cincinnati was going to get in unless they lose this weekend but no one is saying the system is fair.

The system has worked out pretty well as far as I can tell. And it is shaping up to have the best teams playing this year. Adding four more teams does not change it as then we have a bunch of two loss teams with an argument for getting into the eight.

ND is its own worst enemy with a relatively weak schedule and no conference championship game.

It’s just a weird system generally. No new insights here, but most every team is ranked based on the perceived strength of their opponents and they rarely play the same teams. 8 or 12 or 16 or 64…more teams should even that out a bit.
