The system has worked out pretty well as far as I can tell. And it is shaping up to have the best teams playing this year. Adding four more teams does not change it as then we have a bunch of two loss teams with an argument for getting into the eight.

ND is its own worst enemy with a relatively weak schedule and no conference championship game.

We are going to 8 Denis.

It's going to 12. It's virtually a done deal at this point.

Works for me, but people will still complain that it is not fair.

It does not matter the system used

Welp, they have diluted the value of the regular season in every pro sport almost to the point of making it worthless in hockey and basketball (for a long time) and less worthwhile in baseball and football.

College football was great because every week mattered so much. Go to 8, 12 or whatever, and teams can lose twice and get in.

People still complain every year about the 38th best at large basketball team getting sent to the NIT instead of the NCAA tournament. Sorry 18-12 team who finished 9th in the ACC, you deserve no sympathy.

Cincinnati would have a valid complaint if they were undefeated and didn't get in but surprisingly, other teams that play harder schedules lost and you get to waltz in to the playoff.

How about this? Every team makes the playoffs. Start the playoffs on week one, and the best team at the end of the 12 games is champion. It’s what we used to call the regular season.

Eventually every major program will be in the SEC so we’ll formalize the SEC champ = national champ system that already exists.

The truth is, almost every year you can name the top two teams.

The play in games always seem to expose the comparability of the next two teams.

I've never really cared that much about college football post Jan 1.

16 teams. All ten conference champions and 6 at large bids. Eliminates the Cincinnati and ND issue and makes sure you get the best teams from a stacked conference. This would probably eliminate the drastic moves such as Texas and OU going to the SEC.

Here's who we would have right now:
Cincinnati/Houston
Pitt/WF
OkSt/Baylor
Michigan/Iowa
W. Ky/UTSA
Kent S./NIU
SD St
Oregon/Utah
Georgia/Alabama
Louisana/App State

At Large Bids:
Georgia/Alabama loser
OK State/Baylor loser
ND
Ohio State
Ole Miss
If Michigan loses, Michigan or if they win, BYU

That first round would be terrible. 8-5 Kent State vs. Georgia?

A MACtion champ getting an auto bid would be fun.

They should play that game on a Tuesday just to even the odds a bit.

You can't base the first round on a 1 vs. 16 matchup. Based on that, the first round of the Basketball tournament is terrible, the 16 seed has only won once!

The difference is that there are 32 first round games in the basketball tournament but only 8 in the football tournament. I doubt you'd even get competitive games with the top 4 seeds.

There would be a fishy late score that either resulted in a cover or back door

And do you think that the NCAA or football fans would care? More games (more $$$) with a sense of the system being more 'fair' with the mid and low major teams getting a chance to get destroyed in the first round, everyone wins... to make it even more enticing, let the first two rounds be home games for the lower seed. I would love to see Ole Miss going to Michigan in December/January to play a game in the second round with the weather we saw last weekend.

If half the first round games are terrible as actually good teams dominate Sun Belt and MAC teams they would.

It would be like watching Alabama in the September games they win by 50 every year.

I like the 12 teams, first four get a bye, and 5-12 play games in the higher rated stadium. Big 4 or 5 conferences get an autobid. The highest rated team from the non-P4/P5 gets an autobid and a home game.

Leave it at four. There is no reason except money for crooked programs to further risk kids to more injuries.

Either that or pay the kids six figures for each playoff game.

The kids are getting paid now, and could potentially be paid more with an expanded playoff.

It’s going to be fun with 8 or 12 teams.

Not from where I sit. I couldn't care less about the teams ranked below five or six. Lose twice and hit the Gator or Outback bowl as far as I care.

Exactly, they do not deserve a shot at the title.

I want more college football.

I want more big programs playing out of conference against each other.

That can't happen with today's economics. And it would cheapen the regular season to us old heads. But I'm not averse to screwing around with the half asses in the alleged Power Five conferences.

It shouldn't happen, either. It's a sport that was driven by personal allegiances and regionalism. The mass centralization is trying to kill the regionalism. Keep turning it into the Little NFL and it's gonna be as popular as minor league baseball. As far as allegiances go, I can see a scenario in which "college" teams drop their university affiliation. (Bernstein claimed about ten years ago that the opposite would be happening right about now.)

I guess the TV money is just too much to turn down.

Those frauds don't even have a football team.

Likely communists tbh.

As I was driving down today, I was listening to that gambling show on the Score. Apparently the under has hit for 15 years straight. For today’s game, it is 35 points. I was so go over on that……

We're on the same side this time.

Dr. Ken Sr. was retired Army from Korea.

Then he came state-side and you all have to deal with me.
