What was stopping them from just cutting her a check for four grand? Did the really need her to bring them a plate of mozzarella sticks beforehand?

One of the freakonomics guys does that, instead of tipping everyone he encounters in a service capacity excessively (as the other guy does), he sends a personal note of thanks and a substantial check to them around the holidays each year. When they went back and asked the drivers/doormen/et al about their opinion of the two guys, they all spoke highly of the once-a-year big check + a note guy and could hardly recall the decent cash tip every time guy.

That's a little sad. Regulars usually have relationships or something. There is comfort and value.

You work at restaurants?

I think these were folks they both interacted with regularly but for whatever reason they deployed different tipping methods.

Worked in restaurants during college breaks. Chili's North Dale Mabry Tampa Stadium location was everything in that Ryan Reynolds movie and more. Recall one bartender (who was dating a waitstaff girl, of course, cuz everyone who worked there was dating someone else who worked there) getting busted by the general manager railing pre-shift lines in the men's room. Fired immediately, he went down the road to Bennigan's, hired on the spot and picked up a shift that night.

this woman is probably going to make out better than the restaurant. it looks like between the gofundme and kept cash tip, plus the new job she just got...she'll have a pretty merry christmas.

meanwhile, oven & tap may go under by the end of the year.

the restaurant is screwed. She could of been a crap employee deserving to be fired, but it won't matter. people stick up for shitty people all the time via mob rule. The restaurant should of seen this coming and done nothing. Even if there is a record of her being a bad employee, point by point. people always side with the employee unless they were like a kid diddler or something.

First of all, this is a very nice gesture by LTG in one of his many trips to the great state of Arkansas.

The restaurant can't win in this and should cut their losses, they have lost many good clients already.

Nah, this restaurant is in Bentonville (AKA the good part of the state). He wouldn't ever be seen outside of shithole Little Rock.

That's because I'm sure that Little Rock has better restaurants. Bentonville's Motto: "Come for the Waffles, Stay For The Syrup"
