No one is suing Amazon. In Illinois we have exclusive remedy. when you get hurt/killed on the job your exclusive remedy for relief from your employer is to file work comp claim.

Only other option is to tie a 3rd party claim into it as well if you can find a 3rd party (not Amazon) who was responsible for the death. Maybe there is a claim against whoever built the warehouse, but I don't know. That's above my pay grade as a construction engineer.


The amount of money you can receive for a work comp death case vs a civil lawsuit death case is quite a difference. Much less money available in Work Comp in that situation.

The only places that are more dangerous than being a giant building like that during a tornado is being in a car or in a mobile home.

Honestly you might have a better chance going out to an empty truck dock if it slopes down towards the building, crouch down and cover your head and neck.

I can promise you that unless Amazon pays them off quickly that a wrongful death suit is coming from those families. Amazon will settle to avoid the bad PR from a court case between them and 6 people who died in their factory.

Amazon will settle these cases for top dollar, but top dollar in these cases in Work Comp is about $500,000 per death.

I have had several internal courses on employee motivation. Studies show that it takes a lot more than pay to motivate employees. Well designed bonus plans are good for aligning incentives to achieve profitability. But keeping workers happy involves things like offering meaningful, challenging work, providing tools and support, involving them in decision making, having a well defined path for career development, etc.
