I don't mind a cat. Has a couple Siamese simultaneously before. There were different and very cool. This wife despises cats for some reason so its a no go. One thing I remember is with cats box cleaning discipline is paramount.

I had a Siamese for years and definitely was the coolest cat that I ever owned. He just didn't give a fuck about anyone and wouldn't back down to the dogs. Super smart as well. He had been returned to the humane society like 3x from different families and we were his last chance before they were going to put him down. I lost him in the divorce but apparently he went on to live a long time. My ex-wife let me know a year or two that he finally passed.

I "rescued" an alley cat that thought it was a dog. It was fascinating to watch how it operated. He was the unquestioned king of the neighborhood. He also impregnated the neighborhood, but I never got him fixed because it wasn't my problem. He would provide shelter for the litter in my backyard. He would then chase away his male offspring when they got to a certain size. He was a killer on the outside and a well behaved house cat. I spent whatever it took on litter. I'm not a fan of a home that smells like you have an animal.

An annoying beagle mix named Piper who is super friendly to humans. She is dog aggressive and will write checks she cannot cash while out on walks. We did training, daycare, dog parks, etc and for whatever reason it just did not work.

A male tabby named Bubba and a female longhair named Soda. They're pretty chill.

Same issue with my dog. Got him as a puppy and he has always been aggressive towards other dogs even with training and trying doggie daycare. It's either the way he's wired or somehow I transferred the dislike I have towards most humans to him subliminally.

At least a Boxer stands a chance if he got into it with another dog. My mutt is ~35lbs and it would probably be ugly if she went up against a bigger dog.

Sorry to hear. Yeah part of the reason I started the thread was my dog has been throwing up a lot lately and acting very lethargic. My wife and I are a bit worried about him. Enjoy the time you have with the big fella.

just some. I had one before this, and she hardly ever did it. And this one is (allegedly ) a coonhound. But i've seriously only heard her bark a few times.

Everyone thinks Jerry is a beagle too

I feel like I got lucky with him. Hardly ever barks also, he's great with people and other dogs too

I had a cat like that my cousin returned to us. He was better than an alarm clock, never bothered with a litter box and actually used the toilet when stuck inside too long. He actually crowded out his mother within a few months after being returned and would try to fight any animal that he had problems with (including a raccoon). The cat was so large and patient that my then two year old niece would try and ride him like a horse. Greatest pet ever.

so i was thinking about this. I have to imagine this scenario exists somewhere

the mom and dog dad have puppies
The mom, the dad and all the puppies live together
I'd be interested in the dynamic there

We have two cats that have effectively moved from the barn into the garage. About seven years old, they are the remnants of four siblings we got as an abandoned litter of four. Their brother and sister met with early demise due to their wandering ways, and left us the two all-black fixed females. My wife feeds them cat treats exclusively and spends time with them daily, either on the back deck or the garage steps. One comes to the front deck for special, additional treatment.

Both will hunt, most often in the hay fields. They seem bored with mousing in the barn, where I really need their help.

I have 16 mixed breed heifers, 15 all black, one brown/red, probably about 750-800 pounds each right now. They will be delicious.

We have cats as well. One that is almost 18 that a stray mom dumped on us and then two other strays thst wandered up to us on farm. One came up to me when I was talking to a feed salesman and I reached down and picked her up. Had a wound on her leg so I took her to the vet and boom. We got a cat. She’s a good cat. Had another two show up this year that I’m pretty sure are dumps. The male has been captured by my wife and will be getting treatments. The female, who looks like Darko’s, comes by and gets food when it wants it. I’m not a cat person but I don’t like seeing animals suffer so I’m not going to have one starve on my watch.

Went into a spare bedroom the other day where my wife had stored his toys, and I thought "that's silly he'll never find them up here"-took that long for it to settle in

I also probably could have been cleaning the boxes more regularly than once a week but that's on me.

Nice to get the update on everyone's pets.

Missed this.

I can’t let the boxes go more than 3-4 days.

It has gotten old after a while, but they are good cats.

I’ve seen bad/mistreated/feral cats first hand, and I’m just grateful mine aren’t like that.

How did the boxers and cats get along?

Damn man.

Sorry to hear this.

A lot of pets have a way of letting you know it’s time.

Hopefully, his time doesn’t come that soon.

They did ok. The first Boxer was super cool and didn't bother the cats at all. He's the one in my avatar. We rescued a second one that was mistreated and tied to a tree and living outside for a decent amount of time. She was a bit more interested in the cats. We had a basement so essentially we set up a child gate in the door so the cats could get under it and hide if they wanted but the dog couldn't follow them down there. Eventually after a few weeks everyone was on the same page. I haven't had a cat in over 10 years now and my wife is not a fan.

The stray female cat is in the house. Wandering the basement at the moment. Pretty sure she is pregnant. Pretty sure if I don't pay attention that little cat will murder me while I'm down there working on other things.

The stray male cat my wife and daughter brought in (Who I suspect is the father of the kittens if there are kittens in our future) is perhaps the friendliest and dumbest creature I have ever know. At least he is fixed and healthy.
