FWIW, Olin likes Daniels a lot at guard. I think Daniels also has one of the highest PFF ratings at his position for the season. Personally, I thought he got off to a pretty rough start this season but has looked better in the past several games.

Really odd listening to the local "football experts" attempts to puff up Nagy's offense early on in his tenure. Remember Bernstein in particular going on and on about how you really don't need good tackles in this offense because the ball is gone so quickly, huh? How many times has a Pace/Nagy era LT or RT completely whiffed on a block leading to a strip sack or sack at critical moments.

Then you had Hub and the rest of the goofs completely dismissing Olin when he pointed out that Daniels was way too small to be anything other than a replacement level guy at G, the only place he made sense was at C, he sucks at C, so they plug in an even smaller UDFA and give him the job without brining in competition. Pace has consistently filled the roster with undersized guys at C (Grasu/Daniels) when Nagy calls shotgun run/RPO which required the interior of the line to be able to at least stalemate the DT/NG, but with little guys in the interior the plays get blown up with regularity which then forces the QB to leak out of the pocket where your piss poor tackle also get beat.

Yeah Nagys game planning and play calling has never coordinated well with the personnel he puts on the field.. but his planning is crap from the start so personnel becomes almost irrelevant anyway. You’re shooting yourself in the foot before running a marathon when your plan is garbage to begin with.

And fwiw, I think Daniels has worked well at guard overall. Olin seems to have reversed his opinion on Daniels too, Thayer and Mannelly seem to like him as well. But if you’re going to ask him or the center to iso a NT on an inside run and and expect that play to work out well.. you’re doing it wrong. And more often than not, Nagy does it wrong

Yeah Olin, Thayer, and Mannelly all seem to think Daniels does a good job these days all things considered.

Lately Olin has been doing really good breakdowns of why the scheming and planning from Nagy and his staff has been the biggest issue.

Daniels tends to get overpowered and turned by bigger DT's, he does have some nice athleticism, but is never gonna root out a DT on 3rd and one, and is injury prone. Mustipher is even more apt to get blown up at the line of scrimmage, so your interior is undersized and lacks in technique.

Remember Olin saying that the reason Hiestand was fired was because he told Pace/Nagy that they did not have the talent on the roster to run Nagy's system, but if an NFL team is not stout enough on the inside of the OL to at least get a stalemate on a 3rd and one dive play, then the team is really not capable of accomplishing much offensively.

One of the great failings of the Pace era is his dismissive attitude toward building a quality OL, it will be interesting to see how many players are replaced when the next group takes over, but with glaring needs at CB, WR, DT, TE, and ILB, it's likely they just sign a FA C and go with what they have hoping the young tackles can develop and that they can get another year out of Whitehair and Daniles.

I was glad to see him defend Fields, about time one of them stepped up

All this season was ever going to be about was developing Fields, too bad we still have that incompetent goof Nagy getting in the way, but there are signs that Fields and a few of the young guys on offense have some NFL level talent.

Now for the love of god blow up the McKaskey front office model and put some competent people in place that can find a few guys that can catch 50/50 balls and find a few oline guys that you can line up behind and get a yard on 3rd or 4th and one.

Yep, too cerebral. We need a little neanderthal on the offensive line.

Tevin was not so terrible last night. That holding call on him was pure BS. We still won't be spelling his name correctly just yet.

I mean he’s a rookie offensive tackle in his second game.

He’s most likely not going to be good right away.

I like what Jenkins was doing last night. That first penalty was BS.

Still, he moved on from it. They need some more red-ass guys on that line. Fields is getting beat on and nobody does shit about it. If the refs aren't going to, then bring Olin back.

The problem isn't that they don't retaliate by punch guys like Jenkins did. The problem is, they don't do anything. That leads me to believe that Fields may have a McNown like relationship with those guys.

I guess you lost your bet.

I would never bet on the Bears but if I did I would take the over for dumb penalties. Thayer agrees it was stupid btw. Outside of some meatball instinct what is there to defend? The defensive play was perfectly legal and they were walking away when Jenkins ran over there. Result? Penalty and punt…woo-hoo! Save the fake bravado for a time it is justified, like the Kendricks hit. That was deserving of retaliation.

You said last night during your self assured posting on the subject that you would bet that Fields wouldn't be supportive of what Jenkins did. You said it with such authority someone might be mistaken that you knew what you were talking about.

I assume this is what you're referring to: "I’d bet Fields would rather start 15 yds closer to the end zone." I'll stand by that. If Fields were to answer that question differently that would have been a real shock.
