My buddies and I were arguing the other night about this topic and it got quite heated. To me its no contest but I'm a big fan of the band. The Who, Beatles, Stones and Zep may deserve their own category but to me its one band that has the best two albums back to back ever.

AC DC's Highway to Hell followed by Back in Black.

Great albums on their own merritt but to make this quality with twodifferent singers is incredible. Not a bad song on either one.

My dark horse is Rush's Permenent Waves followed by Moving Pictures.

This is a tougher question than I initially thought.

The Highway to Hell / Back in Black tag-team is especially impressive, as the lead singer of the band died inbetween.

Here are my all time faves (being an early-mid 80s metal head at heart)

Scorpions: Blackout / Love at First Sting

Dio (taking a page from your AC/DC with different singer angle, Dio with different bands): Heaven and Hell / Holy Diver

Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast / Piece of Mind

Judas Priest: Hell Bent for Leather / British Steel

Zeppelin: ZoSo / Houses of the Holy

Whitesnake: Slide it In / Self Titled Whitesnake

Randy Rhoads with that senile druggy Ozzy: Blizzard of Ozz / Diary of a Madman

And Justice for All and Metallica

But you cannot go wrong with the AC/DC combo listed either.

A Night at the Opera was the most harmonic albumn of all time. Recalls the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean etc. but with far better musicianship. Really reminds me melodically and harmonically of Bach and Mozart.

Moving Pictures was finally released as DLC for Rock Band yesterday...already had covers of Tom Saywer and Limelight, but I'll probably shell out two bucks each for the master recordings...

Great question.

My picks:

1. Metallica: Ride The Lightning/Puppets
2.AC/DC: Powerage/If You Want Blood..
3.Stones: Sticky Fingers/Exile On Main St.
4.Led Zeppelin: Zep 2/Zep 3
5.Black Sabbath: Paranoid/Master Of Reality
6.Motley Crue: Too Fast For Love/Shout At The Devil
7.Iron Maiden: Number Of The Beast/Piece Of Mind
8.Pantera: Vulgar Display Of Power/Far Beyond Driven
9.Anthrax: Spreading The Disease/Among The Living
10.Dr Dre: The Chronic/2001

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I've made some eggregious errors.
