Unless you already have a handshake agreement with Harbaugh you have to fire Nagy now. You can wait if it's Harbaugh to let him finish the season with Michigan.

You are really bad at this. It was unquestionably time for the Bears to move on from Lovie, but he was not a bad coach. You see things with Nagy just in three years here that you rarely- if ever- saw under Lovie.

Firing Lovie wasn't a bad move. Bringing in Trestman and Emery were the mistakes.

It's a low bar for coaches. Perhaps in a place like Pittsburgh lovie doesn't crack top 5 for coaches. But in Chicago he's the second best, as far as I know. I only started paying attention in the 2000s. That's not to say he's a bad coach outside of Chicago, I'm a big fan actually. But like QBs, we've got a low bar for success.

 The Steelers have only had like 8 head coaches in their history.

Lovie won three division titles and made a Super Bowl over nine years in Chicago. There are very few teams in the league that would consider that kind of decade a huge failure.

I'd never say that his tenure was a huge failure - I've been very consistent about my pro-Lovie views. I hate that he got axed in TB, I was hoping he'd do well there and crush us by 50 one game just to get Emery back.

At this point bringing back Lovie like he is our Billy Martin looks good.

Just a reminder to anyone bedazzled by the Bears demolition of the hapless Giants...Matt Nagy thought Cairo Santos attempting a 66-yard field goal on Heinz Field in Pittsburgh was a better choice than a Hail Mary.

Still not fired. That being said, Nagy isn't as bad of coach as Joe Judge..so hes got that going for him.

What you flushed this morning was probably more competent than Judge.

It says something that the Bears played hard. I am not impressed by that, but it does speak to the character of the players and indicates they at least respect Nagy. Only A-Rob had quit.

It's in the self-interest of the players to play hard.

I hope that the next coach has the respect of the locker room too. More importantly, I want the next coach to have a great offensive system and be able to develop players. That'll make the guys respect you enough.

According to Boomer Esiason, Nagy has already been informed that he will be fired.

I'm guessing the Bears are able to speak with potential candidates now even if they haven't made the Nagy announcement public? That's probably how Boomer found out. The question is whether Pace is the one doing the interviews.

A company I know is starting to sound like the Bears. People have been promoted into new roles but teams that report to this newly promoted person don't know. Other reporting lines elsewhere are changing meaning bosses are losing people to supervise, but they haven't been informed, so bosses keep assigning work to people who don't report to them anymore, but the bosses don't know that.

So based on this I'm sure the people in charge of looking for new coaches don't know they have the green light do to so, while ownership just assumes those people have been doing due diligence on coaches for months.

If Philips is doing the interview, is that any better?

phillips is either not involved in football at all or has some involvement in football operations. it just depends which beat writer/reporter you talk to.

What we do know is that Ryan Pace should have been fire already...he hasn't been. It's one thing to retain the coach for the duration of the season, but your GM search should have been well underway already.

Phillips is absolutely involved, regardless of what anyone says. If he weren't, and he was simply counting the McCaskey's money and planning the next stadium build, there would be zero reason for him to participate in the farcical end-of-year press conferences.

True.

Speaking of the end of the season....man, how awkward will it be seeing Ryan Pace up there speaking with an entire world knowing the dude has no business being employed. This end of the season Bears presser should be a whole new class of BAD.

Yeah, my guess is that instead of having two sessions (with Nagy/Pace and then McCaskey/Phillips), they will have one with McCaskey/Phillips/Pace together to face the music. Or maybe George solo and a newly-promoted Pace alongside Phillips.

I'm looking forward to the train wreck.

Is it possible that Michael Mc Caskey was a superior executive to George?

If Ryan Pace ends up "promoted" out of this....than yes, I will go ahead and declare Michael McCaskey the superior Bears Exectutive.

The Bears are in for a really rough 2022 in terms of fan interest. I don't think the media is gonna go along too nicely with the idea of a promoted Ryan Pace.

Dave McGinnis as bad...promoting Ryan Pace is actually worse.

George appears to be either unwilling, or more than likely unable to process football thoughts from people that have ideas on how he could improve or streamline his organization. This is fairly common when the 2nd or 3rd generation takes over a mom and pop business, the kids and grandkids have been coddled and handed everything, so are not exactly the best and brightest and need to keep the brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, and their kids who all expect to be handed cradle to grave employment with the organization happy.

One can reasonable argue that during the last several coach/GM hiring opportunities George McKaskey not only made the wrong choice, but let two or three far superior candidates walk out of his building after completing the interview process, he has not only missed, he and his assembled braintrust likely selected one the worst applicant, and likely passed over better guys for interviews.
